How bad is round ligament pain?

In currently 15+5 with my first baby and I’m wondering how bad round ligament pains can get? I’ve been laid up in pain all day, to the point of yelping when I stand up. I went to our emergency out of hours doctor who said all my stats were fine and checked a urine sample for any signs of infection which was clear then sent me home to rest. They said to go to a&e if anything gets worse but is it normal for this kind of pain to leave people laid up unable to do anything?
I would definitely consider myself to have a high pain threshold too. TIA x

Unfortunately it can be, if it persists ask your midwife to refer you to physio hopefully they can help. I've been in horrible pain through round ligament/hip/pelvis since around 16 weeks, currently 25+1 and every time I walk/turn in bed/stand up etc it hurts. Sometimes it can be bad enough to make me cry if I'm honest and there is no particularly comfortable position when it's like that. But my physio is lovely and I have my second apt with her on Wednesday and to be honest it can't come soon enough!

I also have a high pain tolerance and have lived with chronic pain for many years but this is a different kind of pain, it can take your breath away!

It can be painful and everyone's experience is different however I've found the more you keep moving the more it eases.

Thank you both for sharing your experiences @JD90 @buzzlightyearsgloves. I’m glad I’m not alone, makes me panic less but I’m sorry you’re both struggling too! X

I had a couple of instances of round ligament pain and pretty much had your experience in my first pregnancy. I was laid up in pain for hours to a good half a day until it eased.

I once got it while on a long walk with my husband and dog and it was miserable getting back to the car.

You're not alone.

Put it this way. I've ended up with SPD/PGP. I'm on crutches and codeine. I'm due this week. Started at 16 weeks and has got progressively worse no amount of physio has helped.
Hopefully it won't Come to this extent in your case.

It's extremely painful. I had SPD pains from around 15 weeks which progressed by the end of my pregnancy to pain which took my breathe away and made me cry most days. By 30 weeks I couldn't walk, only shuffle. I should have been on crutches or even in a wheelchair but no-one ever told me that. My advice would be, if you can possibly afford it, see a private physio now. They might be able to keep you moving and in less pain. I waited for the NHS 'physio' which was nothing more than a sheet of instructions I'd already read online and been doing.

I had physio while I was on maternity leave which really helped as I still had pain after the birth. But she was very cross I hadn't been seen while I was pregnant.

@Manifest828 @SnapdragonToadflax so so sorry to hear you’ve both had such a rough time with it😔I don’t think health professionals are telling people enough about this when it’s their first pregnancy, the pain is scary it makes you think somethings happening to the baby doesn’t it!
I will definitely be following your advice regarding private physio though, thank you both for your comments x
