Can anyone give some insight to consultant care and delivery when diagnosed with pulmonary embolism. Currently 27 weeks pregnant. Any advice would be appreciate as I’ve been left in limbo until my app on 25th sept

I had a PE when pregnant at 11 weeks with DS2. I had a planned C- Section so that anti coagulants could be stopped before delivery. Nothing really different with consultant care compared to low risk midwife care I had when pregnant with DS1.

Thank you for replying, glad to know you could have a section without issues. I have read so much that I think it’s making it worse, that I can’t have an epi or section if I needed one. Nice to hear you did x

the advice re. epidurals relates to the time of the last dose of whichever heparin you're on. An epidural is contraindicated within 24 hours of a treatment dose (which is what you'd be on for a PE) or 12 hours of a preventative dose of a heparin like enoxaparin/dalteparin. A c-section would still be done if it was needed, but would need to be under GA rather than spinal if it was within 24 hours of a treatment dose too. Depending on what mode of delivery they think is safest/you want they'll advise when to stop the drugs. HTH
