First tri - what's everyone eating?

Hi all

Just curious really! I'm usually a very healthy eater and have been up until the 6 week mark.

6 weeks came (I'm now 7+2) and I can't stomach meat or vegetables. Pretty much all I'm eating is bread, crackers, humous, potatoes and sweets 😩 which in turn then makes me feel guilty for not eating a proper diet. I'm ok with fruit now and then but protein and veg is just not there.

Anyone else feel the same and feel bad that your not eating a whole, nutritious diet?
What are you eating?
Any tips for eating healthy whilst feeling nauseous?

@wtawtaw, I know the exact feeling - I survived on a lot of beige carbs and sugary cereal in first trimester. Even days when I didn't feel particularly nauseous I still couldn't really stomach fruit and veg or anything with a bit of spice or flavour!

I'm now 22 + 2 and from about 12 weeks was able to go back to a normal healthy diet and can now eat salad, fruit, veg, curries - basically anything. I'm also now back to exercising 3/4 times a week and walking for an hour each day. I've got no real tips for you but just wanted to say give yourself a break and don't worry about it too much, you've just got to do what you're able to for the first trimester and (hopefully) you'll feel much better and back to yourself in the second.

@PennyPenny1 I'm glad you were them same, that has made me feel better about it all, thank you!

I'm just walking at the moment 4/5 times a week. Have given my resistance training up until at least 12 weeks but would still be nervous going back to it. What exercise do you do? Did you have to get the clear from midwife?

Would echo what @PennyPenny1 just eat what you can stomach during the first trimester. I took prenatal vitamins which I hoped compensated for all the beige food I was eating 😂 18 weeks now and eating a more varied diet.

I use the results wellness lifestyle app for exercise as they have a whole pregnancy exercise section - cardio, yoga.. all sorts. I also go to a dance fitness class I did pre pregnancy and just take the lower impact options. Hope your pregnancy goes well OP things should hopefully feel a lot better as you go into the second trimester xx

I would say the majority of women will eat a lot of beige, carby food in the first trimester. IT’s most a case of eat whatever you can stomach, the healthy eating can come later. I always try and make sure I take a good quality pregnancy vitamin just so I know me and baby are getting some

@wtawtaw I've done resistance training throughout (including when I could be bothered during first trimester!). All the advice I read said you can basically do whatever you did before, I just make sure I don't go too heavy, don't do any dedicated abs work and if I feel out of breath I take it a bit easier. My midwife agreed with me taking this approach at my booking appointment.

I feel like I'm starting to struggle with mobility a bit now I'm getting bigger, so will probably focus on swimming and walking in the coming months so swimming could also be an option for you? I think ultimately it boils down to whatever you feel comfortable doing and you can always speak to your midwife if you're unsure x

@tulipsunday oooo thank you, will take a look at that app! Glad you are feeling better 😊

I’m nearly 14 weeks now, still vomiting at least once a day but miles better than I have been. Yesterday I had some spinach in a pasta bake, the day before that I had some cucumber…prior to that I can’t remember the last time I ate a vegetable 😬 my body just says no. I have managed a bit of fruit but not much.

In my last pregnancy it was 20 weeks or so before I could stomach a healthy diet, I now have a very healthy 2 year old so I wouldn’t say it makes any difference. I just use a good quality pregnancy vitamin and omega 3 supplement.

Pretty much bread in various forms! - bagels, crumpets, toast, crackers. I was used to eating very healthy before and doing a lot of exercise so I feel pretty gross right now. Trying to encorporate fruit smoothies in the morning just to get some nutrition in and help me go to the bloody toilet because this beige diet is not it! 😭

Beige food for the win all round then, has made me feel better at least 😅
