Mucus plug vs Discharge

2nd pregnancy and I’m 38 weeks tomorrow and was induced with my first where I lost my plug about 12 hours post induction and 12 hours before he was born (24 hours from induction to birth). My discharge has been standard white, creamy ect but I’ve just been to the loo and it’s between white and clear, stringy and jellyish. About the size of a 20p. She’s moving about fine but I am feeling very stressed for multiple reasons, my son is a bit under the weather and just being a general horror and I’m having some lower back pain. Earlier I had a bit of a sharp pain under my bump.

no blood in this discharge but cos I was induced, during lockdown, I didn’t really take note of everything happening as I was more bothered about my husband making it back to hospital in time for the birth. Is there always blood in mucus plug?

For further context, I’ve been back and forth for scans as bump has been big, baby has been small (not worryingly but under the ideal centile line) she’s moved a lot during pregnancy and otherwise been a great one aside from the fact we’ve moved twice, bought a house, had a lot on with work ect….

There’s not always blood in the mucus plug. But it doesn’t mean that labour is about to happen either. I lost bits of mine for a week before I went into labour

The mucus plug can come for weeks, days or hours before labour and some people won't see it come out at all. Usually its egg whitey or slightly white and snotty looking, sometimes streaked with pink or brown blood as the small blood vessels break with dilation. Hopefully your eldest will be feeling better soon and I'm sure you've someone lovely planned to look after him, horror or not. They can't help it, its developmentally normal - my covid kid is also in the threenager stage!

With the lower back pain you may be in early labour and will just need to see if that progresses into contractions or you have any other signs things are getting underway. Happy birthing!
