Food aversions- Severe

Hello 😊

Has anyone suffered with really bad food aversions to literally everything? I'm currently 12 weeks and honestly for the past few weeks I've been force feeding myself!

Lost nearly 2 stone. Tried medication but the nausea is still extreme. Currently been house bound for around 5 weeks!!

I know I wouldn't feel as unwell if I could eat but it's so difficult 😞
Any tips??? xxx

Sorry to hear you’re feeling so unwell.
I’ve had food aversions this time around (not during first pregnancy at all though) can’t stomach anything I usually love like salads, vegetables etc have just been eating what I can stomach mostly plain or carby foods.

Are there are different sickness tablets you can try or have you tried a few different ones? Maybe one will work for you?

could you maybe try a meal replacement shake like complan to help get the calories in? They do strawberry flavour I think xx

Sorry to hear you're experiencing the aversions too it's horrible isn't it!
I normally have the biggest appetite and love food so much! I thought I'd put weight on not lose it!
I haven't thought about shakes actually but I will definitely give them a try, thank you ☺️ x

I had similar and also lost 2 stone, luckily I had spare to lose!
I took multi vits and then just decided to eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted and throw out any “rules” about food. If I fancied something I ate it, if I didn’t then I didn’t. I didn’t bother about variety or healthy eating
I was sick all through my pregnancy but by doing the above I was fine and DD was perfect healthy and a good weight.

This is reassuring! Thank you ☺️
I also had weight to lose so I think that's why the midwife wasn't phased!
I literally don't fancy anything, like I think I do and then the thought of eating 🤢 turns my stomach!! Ahhh can't wait for this bit to fade a little xx

Very sorry to hear this OP. I really sympathise. I had the same problem when pregnant - almost all food was revolting to me. I had to get DP to eat his dinner out of sight. The smell of cooking made me gag. And I could hardly go outside as the greenery reminded me of vegetables!
Is there any food at all that you can stomach? My advice would be that if there is, just eat as much of that as you want - don’t feel guilty thinking you should be eating differently.
For me, the problem starting getting better from 14/15 weeks, when I was able to start phasing foods back in very gently. I hope you can do the same.
Good luck!

Thank you so much! That's so reassuring knowing you felt the same, I can't face leaving the house because if I smell anything dodgy I'm 🤢
I am praying this settles too! Just want my appetite back 🙏🏼
Thank you again I really appreciate it xx

I had this in all 3 pregnancies! I won't make you feel sick by listing what I could and couldn't eat, but let's say the list of foods I could stomach was very very small! I agree with pp - forget everything about the norms of eating and just have what you like, when you like. I ate at very strange times and very bizarre combos of food sometimes. I'd also recommend experimenting with temperature- the colder the food, the easier it sat in my stomach, although water always had to be room temperature otherwise it came straight back up (nonsensical I know). Each time I found the aversions lessened in the third trimester and I have 3 strapping dc who've all been healthy, chunky boys since birth so it didn't do them any harm! Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you so much, this is all so reassuring! Poppadoms seem to be a win at the minute 🤣
Did you stick to things then they would make you feel sick? I was living on ice pops but even that makes me feel ugh now!!
Thank you for sharing- also how did you do it 3 times!!! You hero xxx

Yes this was me from week 7 to around 16. Ask for Ondanestron from your GP. It helped me.

Ahh this is the only medicine I haven't tried as they wouldn't give it in the first trimester. I'm going to ask the GP tomorrow! Thank you so much x

Yeah I definitely found I'd eat something happily for weeks then suddenly it would betray me! So weird! There are still some things that turn my stomach from how sick they made me in pregnancy. I don't know how I got through it three times - blind optimism mainly, that it wouldn't be so bad the next time (but it always was!).
