Hello!
Due to ongoing morning sickness / hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), I have just been prescribed some medication to take - 50mg of Cyclizine up to 3x a day.
Does anyone have any experience with this medication? Obvioulsy nervous about taking meds in pregnancy..
Thank you! x

Hi OP. I've been on it since the start of my pregnancy for the same reason.

It's the safest one to take during the first trimester. I've found that it helps sometimes but usually I still feel sick and am being sick but it kind of just takes the edge off if that makes sense? Theres still nausea lingering but it doesn't feel as strong in my opinion. But sometimes it feels like it's doing nothing ... sorry would've liked to be more positive about it but I'm just being honest! X

I’ve had nausea during this pregnancy and the doctor prescribed me promethazine which I took until 13 weeks luckily I’ve been able to stop taking them now but I’ve been told by midwife and docs if needed I can take them.

I’ve taken cyclizine previously when not pregnant and they’re much better for sickness imo as they don’t make you drowsy as the ones I was on do. I’d assume docs wouldn’t prescribe them if they’re not safe to take in pregnancy xx

Hi OP, I took cyclizine and prochlorperazine from 6 - 12 weeks and then took ondansetron as well from 12 weeks onwards. I didn’t find cyclizine much help by itself, but my HG was severe and I was hospitalised a few times after being unable to drink anything. It definitely does work for some women though. After 24 weeks ish I found the ondansetron was generally enough by itself, but would take a prochlorperazine as well if needed on a particular day for any reason. My baby is 8 months now and doing great! I hope you find it helps you, but there are other medications available if it doesn’t work so don’t be afraid to ask for something else.

I’m taking cyclizine at the moment. Happy to do so as both a first time pregnant mama (8+0) today and a qualified midwife.

it isn’t completely getting rid of the nausea feeling, but has definitely minimised the vomiting and means I can keep some food and liquids down which is good :)

Thank you all!! I'm in my second trimester now, week 17 - definitely hoped it would have gone by now!
