Right so roughly 5 weeks pregnant and been prescribed progesterone tablets due to having 12 miscarriages,
For the last 2 days when I wake up in the morning when I wipe I have brown/pinkish discharge and very mild cramps, Ill have my first progesterone tablet and it stops? The discharge and the cramps? Then about an hour before my second dose it'll happen again but stops within minutes of having my tablet?
I wonder if it's a threatened miscarriage and the progesterone is stopping it? I have no idea but it's freaking me out big time! Anyone else this when on progesterone?

Many thanks

Hi, I’m on progesterone and had some brown discharge on Monday and then again Wednesday. EPU just said to keep an eye as I have my next scan on Monday. Are you able to speak with your EPU?

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 11/08/2023 12:12

It's likely the progesterone.

Are you using vaginal pessaries? They can irritate the cervix causing bleeding. I bled quite badly on them? You can ring gp and ask to switch to ones that can be used rectally. (Honestly not as bad as you think)

Really hoping this works for you.

I've got an emergency appointment in 30 mins, their going to scan me, I'm praying it's just the progesterone tablets, but after getting a negative test and no symptoms at all now, deep down I know it's not looking good! And even after a scan I'm going to be on edge because I know they won't see anything as I'm not far enough gone! ... but I've still got a tiny bit of hope xx

Yeah a scan confirm my loss. No they ain't going anymore tests! I got told" yep you've lost the pregnancy, sorry, might be worth going on the Tommy's website!.".... they had no advice to give me! I had a gynaecologist involved last year he did some tests and it all came back normal! Jusy recommended progesterone but that didn't help this time! Xx

if the losses are happening around a similar time there must be something they can fix 😔I hope Tommy's can help x

@nomysundaybest I'm so sorry for your loss.

Which tests did you have done? Have they tested your and your partners hormones, FBC, + semen analysis for him?
Have you been taking any preconception supplements (you and him)?

I'm not sure if you're up for trying again but if you do it would be worth trying progesterone from the point you would expect to implant, or the point your get a positive test. I managed to get my GP to do this for this pregnancy after previous MCs.

Would you consider a private consultation?

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hi lovely, the only test I've had were some bloods and a ultra sound of my ovaries and uterus, this is all I have been told I've needed. I've not even met the gynecologist who did these tests just a phone call and he arranged the appointment for the Scan and bloods! I don't even know who to contact regarding getting some more tests done! My hospital is utter rubbish in every way! 13 miscarriages now and not 1 but of support or advice! The only thing I have been told is about taking progesterone, so as soon as I got a positive test I went straight to my gp and he prescribed me 12 weeks worth! But didn't seem to help me this time round ... honestly I don't know what to! Who to ask ect! But I really want know if its something in my DNA ect so I can tell my daughter when she's older ! My husband has never been told he needed any tests ect as I'm getting pregnant (took us 12 months with this one) but I don't know..... xx

Getting pregnant is one thing but if you're not staying pregnant it could be down to an issue with the embryo quality or some other factor which impacts it.

Did the hospital offer you IVF?

I haven't been offered ivf, literally the only thing is these progesterone tablets ... would you know who I need to get intouch with to try and get some more tests done? Xx

Would you consider paying for a private consultation? In the meantime definitely speak to Tommy's charity as they can help you understand what you should have been getting via the NHS but to have so little investigation done after 12 MCs sounds really poor to me.

When did you start taking the progesterone in this last pregnancy and what was the dose?

I would consider going private but it's all down to the cost, I started taking the progesterone as soon as I got a positive test and they were 200mg 3x a day. The midwife said that I lost this pregnancy rather early on! Would you know who to contact via the Tommy's charity? Xx

You've had an awful time, I'm so sorry. It might be worth asking the GP for a clinical genetics appointment. Sometimes there's a genetic reason for multiple miscarriages. This could still be the case even though you've had a child previously.

seven201 · 18/08/2023 13:12

I can recommend the CRP clinic in epsom, Surrey (and Harley street). It's expensive but has good results. I had 4 mc and secondary infertility so it was a very long process, but am now 28 weeks. My immune system attacks embryos so they didn't have a chance. Lots of medications (and money!) solved that.

If you can't afford private then you could ask your gp to refer you to a hospital that properly treats miscarriages, not just by giving everyone progesterone. There's a well regarded clinic in conventry hospital I think, and professor Shehata has a clinic at epsom general hospital too, but they're limited as to what drugs they can prescribe through the nhs and obviously there'll be a wait. You don't have to be local to them, but obviously you'll have to travel to some of the appts.

nomysundaybest · 18/08/2023 17:01

Thank you all, I'm definitely going to look into the private sector, it'll be worth it! I'll also get intouch with my GP and see what they can sort out too.! It took us 5 years to finally get some kind of communication from a gynaecologist, 5 referrals later and still no answers! It has been extremely hard for me and my husband as he doesn't like to talk about it, but I think we both need to know what's going on xxx

@nomysundaybest I had a referral to Tommys via my GP in January and I had my first appointment with them by mid-March. It was much quicker than I expected! The referral criteria was 2 or 3 miscarriages (depending on your location) but there are only a few clinics across the UK so depending on your location you might have to travel a little way to get to them but they have been incredible for me. Currently pregnant and I had some cramps and my EPU couldn't get me in for 4 days but I rang them to see if they had any space and they added me to the end of their patients for the day and scanned me within 3 hours. Really hope someone helps you to get some answers soon
