Whooping cough vaccine - did it make you unwell?

Hi,

I've left my whooping cough vaccine quite late due to various reasons, I'm now 27 weeks & need to decide when to take. Did you get ill after it? Should I prepare myself for a fever (already had a bad fever a month or so ago so dreading it tbh).

As for the flu vaccine, I suspect best to wait till the new flu vaccine is out in late Sep/Oct?

Thanks

No it didn't make me ill. I had both at the same time. Seemed more efficient to me than going back twice.

No, I didn't get ill.

Gabby10 · 08/08/2023 07:21

No I didn't get poorly so you'll be fine. I would imagine doc/midwife will get in touch with you about flu vaccine I'm sure I got a text from the docs saying I could have it but then I just went to my local pharmacy for it x

No illness here

TTCAbroad · 08/08/2023 07:31

No illness for me either.

Jazzybean · 08/08/2023 07:36

No ill effects whatsoever, either time. And tbf I’d rather have a day or two of feeling rubbish than for my baby to get whooping cough and be seriously (potentially life threateningly so) unwell.

Same with the flu vaccine. I work in healthcare and they are literally handed out like sweets to staff. They usually start vaccinating some time from September so just wait until then. You’ll likely get a text from your GP surgery.

No I had the flu vaccine and the whooping cough vaccine on the same day and I was fine afterwards x

FriendsDrinkBook · 08/08/2023 07:41

No , I was fine.

BHRK · 08/08/2023 07:41

No, didn’t feel ill at all

nonmerci99 · 08/08/2023 09:06

I didn’t get ill, just had a sore arm after.

Roollie · 08/08/2023 09:35

With my first born I felt fluey for 24 hours, and was in bed.
Second time was absolutely fine.

Hi @JoyApple
whooping cough jab was all good, didn't get ill x

asherzlymama · 08/08/2023 16:51

I had mine early at approx 10 weeks due to going on holiday and it giving other protection against illness in a foreign country, I was not ill after it, a slight dull ache in injection arm.

Blue2020 · 08/08/2023 17:00

No I was completely fine. Also my midwife recommended having it after the 20 week scan, I think in general it’s 16-32weeks is the best time, although any time until birth if it’s been left late would hopefully also be beneficial to the baby. I had it I believe at 26 weeks (then had my baby at 35 weeks).

TTCJJB · 08/08/2023 17:20

I wasn't ill at all, my arm ached a little but that's all.

Inmydreams88 · 08/08/2023 18:01

No I was fine, just a sore arm for a few days like my covid jab. Flu jab arm is not as bad for some reason.

Sophiey11 · 08/08/2023 20:02

I had mine last week (at 25 weeks) I was quite anxious about getting ill. I had no problem other than a sore arm for a day or two xx
