Has anyone moved to a different area half way through pregnancy

It’s likely I’ll have to move to a different NHS Trust at some point during my pregnancy (prob around month 6). I’m worried about what this means for continuity of care. Has anyone got experience of doing this? Any tips?

Yes. I moved an hour away and asked for the hospital in my new town to be the one on my paper work, so that was where I went for all scans and consultancy appts. The only thing that changed was the midwife I saw at the GP and this didn’t cause any issues.

Yes, I moved at about 7 months. Went to the GP the day I moved in and the receptionists were great at getting me all the numbers for midwives - go in person if you can as it’s just easier. I had to have a booking in appointment again, which was quite funny at that stage, but they need to do it for the paperwork.

The only bits that went wrong were missing the tours of the hospital where I’d give birth, but I’m sure I could have got on one if I really wanted to. Also I ended up with a gap between appointments late on where I felt I probably was due a check but again the receptionists were great and managed to rustle up an appt for me.

@h3ll0o thank you. It’s too far for me to start going to appointments there, so I’ll have to start off here and then transition completely over to there at some point. Thanks for your reply.

Yeh ,moved at 6 months 5hours away . It was fine got to know midwife at doctors quickly . Because Covid was still about I didn’t get to look at the hospitals in the area so just had to pick one and hope for the best . Getting to know midwife was fine , hospital was crap

I moved 2h away towards the end of my first trimester (and at peak morning sickness 🤢).

I kept my care at my original hospital until after the anomaly scan. I was under consultant-led care, and she agreed this would be a good idea.

Transition to my new local hospital worked fine in terms of midwifery care, though I didn't see the new consultant until 30-something weeks.

@Slobberchops1 sorry to hear the hospital wasn’t great. I expect I won’t have much insight either by the time it comes round to choosing so will just have to cross my fingers!

First time I ever set foot in the hospital where I gave birth was when I was in labour. Could not fault the midwives - they were super.
