Anyone used clary sage to help
Induce labour? Did it work for you? . I'll have to Have induction due to high fluid if I don't go into labour myself soon so trying all the things to get labour going!

I've just rubbed some on my belly with olive oil and added some to a bath I'm about to get into now!

I'm 37 + 2!

Would love to hear some experiences?

No, though I read that it heightens the risk of having a PPH after using it and I did have a major PPH? When are you due to be induced?

FrogFairy · 03/08/2023 16:36

No personal experience but I have heard anecdotally that reflexology can help set off labour.

I sniffed it quite a bit between 39 and 40 weeks. Brought on some very strong braxton hicks that never went anywhere and eventually I gave up.

Gave birth at 41 weeks but it was a difficult birth and with hindsight clary sage would not have got through the amount of tension my body was holding onto by the end.

I had it in baths, rubbed on bump and sniffed it for two weeks before baby came so I’d say no, not at all

I’m an aromatherapist. If you really want to bring on Labour you need Jasmine oil. But it will work so be prepared. You need to dilute it in a carrier oil like olive oil. But you need to measure it out. If you use 20ml of olive oil you need 5 drops Jasmine. Rub it on the small of your back.

clary sage is an anti-depression oil it lifts your mood.

jasmine is more of a muscle relaxant, this is what you need to induce Labour but be careful.

also never use essential oils in a bath if they are undiluted. They will sit on the surface of the water and could burn your skin or delicate areas. Mix the same ratio to oil as I posted above ⬆️. Then put that in the bath.

I used in the bath with milk and sniffed it as I liked the smell of it.

Had BH but nothing more.

Thank you so much for this advice.

Can you confirm if there is any truth in the idea that clary sage can be a cause of PP haemorrhage? I've tried to google it but not found much info on this 🤔

May pop out and get some jasmine tomorrow!

My advice is to use Jasmine. You may find it in a diluted form which you will still need to dilute. MaKe sure you buy the essential oil not a fragrance oil which has no benefits.

Jasmine is very expensive so if it seems cheap it is probably not the real deal.

As a word of caution, oils are very potent. They aren’t really safe for use if you don’t know what you are doing. They are toxic when used incorrectly. Never apply the oil direct to your skin. Never inhale from the bottle.

When I was pg I had to stop using the oils otherwise I could have had a miscarriage.

When applied to your skin the oils will be in your blood system and organs within 1-100 minutes.

Tisserand oils are good quality. They have Jasmine for sale on their website for £35 for 2ml.

I wouldn’t mess with clary sage or jasmine oil to induce labour, especially at 37 weeks.

Firstly is the the induction you’ve been recommended absolutely necessary? What reasons have you been given for it? If the only reason is high fluid with no further risk factors identified to be causing the high fluid I would decline the induction and wait for spontaneous labour.

Any induction, whether medical or caused by you messing with oils or drinking tea for that matter causes your body to go into labour before it is ready and before baby has worked themselves into the best position they can be in.

I went to an acupuncturist who said “Are you sure you want to go ahead? If this works, you’ll go into labour on Sunday and you may not get your doctor.” It worked and he was right. Didn’t matter at all because I was so uncomfortable, I was threatening to get her myself out with a knife and fork. (Of course was worse the next time because I had twins!)

PinkButtercups · 04/08/2023 07:20

I don't think you should mess with oil at all especially when you don't know what you're doing.

Do lots of walking and get on the exercise ball.
