Title says it all really. I know I should just not think about it and let nature take its course but just started TTC and can't help wondering how long it takes people on average to fall pregnant?

We have been sooo lucky here - first month everytime.

yelnats · 27/02/2008 22:52

I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for people having difficulty conceiving. I honestly didnt know that it was normal for nothing to happen for a good few months at least until I came on here. I do know a few people in RL who have had difficulty but didnt realise how common it was.

#1 - 4 cycles of "not trying"
#2 - was IVF, we'd been trying for 3 years (lost that pregnancy)
#3 - 2 cycles (but I used injectable fertility drugs on the cycle I conceived)
#4 - this is the 9th cycle.

Buckets · 28/02/2008 10:33

1 month of trying with our 1st, the next 2 were unplanned so I'd say about 10mins each!

BrightShinySun · 28/02/2008 10:46

Leonie what do you mean by the TCOYF method?

Gracie14 · 28/02/2008 11:11

It took me 13 months and ended in m/c and then got pregnant 2 months later, and I am currently 13+5 weeks and hoping and praying this baby sticks.

Good luck with ttc, its so hard when you want something so so much. I'm not going to say try and relax because I know it just doesn't work that way - and I had, had enough of people telling me to do that. So just see how you go and hope your pregnant very soon

maxbear · 28/02/2008 13:07

Irregular periods
dd six cycles which equated to 9 months of trying. I knew when I was ovulating and did it at the right time every month. Reflexology helped to regulate my cycle.
ds two months of trying, couldn't believe it was prepared that it would take ages.

elportodelgato · 28/02/2008 15:37

3 months (am currently 28 weeks with my first). I know exactly how you feel though - even though it took us no time at all, I remember feeling really (irrationally) down when it didn't happened immediately as I wanted. I suppose once you've decided to try, you just want success asap! Good luck with this one, I think the key is relaxing and enjoying the process of practising

PrePG · 29/02/2008 11:04

BrightShinyShun Leonie means Taking Charge of Your Fertility - it's a book written by Toni Wechsler and teaches you to chart your temperature and look for fertility signs in order to determine when you're ovulating and therefore when you should have sex.

I also read it and charted my temp and got pregnant first month. I actually came off of BCP in October, but we didnt' start trying until January.

BrightShinySun · 29/02/2008 12:30

Thanks PrePG I might see if I can get hold of it and have a read.

Got pg 7 months after coming off the Pill at age 37. Thought it would take far longer at my advanced age!

Think something must be weird with me - as I was having tests for early menopause ( just 40) and got pregnant 6 months after meeting DP - and we certainly weren't trying - just misjudged dates And then 8 months later - now 42 - got pregnant again at first try...well, we were on holiday! Still no sign of the menopause

rascal1979 · 01/03/2008 10:56

6 days and obviously a speedy baby as she then arrived 7 months later due to HELLP. So start (TTC) to finish (birth) was 31 weeks and 5 days!

littlemissturquoise · 02/03/2008 08:06

I came off the pill in the October, but we did not start "trying" until the end of the following Jan, as I had been on anti-biotics for my bad skin, and doc said to wait a couple of months to get them out of my system, and then there was Xmas and all the boozing, so we did not want to get pg during the festivities. So, we started properly after my period in Jan and got preg 6 months later. I am now 33 weeks and have PERFECT skin (thank you hormones!)

My sis is a mid-wife student and told me to have sex when I had egg white discharge, which definitely worked. I actually think that the month we conceived was the first month that I properly ovulated after coming off the pill, as before that, my cycles had been all over the place. The last cycles I had before conceiving were: 7 weeks, 2 weeks, then 4 weeks (when I had the 4 week one, I was hoping that things were settling down, then I had ovulation pains, the egg white discharge and yippee, it happened!)

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

kaa0901 · 02/03/2008 08:27

with #1 I came off the pill in september and was pregnant in december. with #2, DS was 8 weeks old when we decided to try and do the deed and i am now pregnant again(13weeks). V scary especially as i'm 33 and DH is 43 so we are not supposed to be as fertile as we were in our 20's

donbean · 02/03/2008 08:41

DS1 3 years and 2 mcs

am 7 weeks with no 2 and that has taken us 4 months!!!

donbean · 02/03/2008 08:41

i am 38 this year btw so really really old.

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/03/2008 09:08

3.5 yrs first time, but ended in m/c.
A further 7 months for dd.
14 months for the one I'm carrying now.

pinkypig · 02/03/2008 10:17

DS1 12 months of obsessing and timing sex. Undergoing investigation ('mild PCOS') and conceived that month.

#2 probaby around 4 months kind of a happy accident not using contraception and not having much sex

NervousNameChanger · 02/03/2008 20:22

Hah- well, as I just posted yesterday on Nov 2008 ante-natal thread...2 fecking weeks!

DC1 took about 4.5 months, but this is ridiculous.

I am sure this is not anywhere near normal though...

whomovedmychocolate · 02/03/2008 20:26

First time round we were told we could never conceive naturally, so gave up trying and conceived first month . This time, well I got pregnant then miscarried and I'm pregnant again. In fact every time I had sex I got pregnant despite breastfeeding.

But I believe the average in the UK is 13 months according to my fertility consultant (who as I have noted above is an arse)

Hulababy · 02/03/2008 20:26

15m, early mc, then another 15m - DD#1

Been TTC for over 3 years this time, but have recently had a couple of ops which should help with fertility, fingers crossed anyway.

Heated · 02/03/2008 20:37

First time, both times, after over 12 yrs on the pill. A bit shocked really.

DH now thinks he's supersperm and has discovered a new word: fecund

Dh keen on having baby no 3 but we're that bit older and it may not be as easy.
