Bleeding 11 weeks

Hi all,
just looking for some advice and reassurance. I’m 11+3 today and woke up in the early hours to bleeding, which is on and off all morning. Got slight backache too. Managed to get scan with the EPAU tomorrow morning but do you think it’s worth trying to get a private one today? Feel like I’m gonna go mad with the waiting. I had a scan at 9 weeks which showed a heartbeat, but have previously had two miscarriages so my mind is just thinking the worst.

Oh @Pringle2223 I'm so so sorry to hear this. Wish I had some words that would help

YellowHatt · 03/08/2023 12:07

I’m so so sorry. I know you may not want to think about this now and I’m sorry to speak so frankly but ask them what testing is possible before they start you on any medication or procedures as once your embryo is gone that option won’t be possible.

Pringle2223 · 03/08/2023 13:14

@YellowHatt thank you ❤️ I did think this but it wasn’t mentioned, maybe I should call and ask

I know this is going to make me sound like a crazy person, but do you think there’s any chance the scan could’ve got it wrong? My bleeding/pain has totally stopped now. I know it’s probably completely unlikely but just wondered if anyone has had this and then got a second opinion?

@Pringle2223 I don’t think you sound crazy at all, it’s a huge thing that you’re trying to work through. The Tommy’s group on Facebook might be helpful https://www.tommys.org/baby-loss-support/miscarriage-information-and-support

Mangotango39 · 04/08/2023 06:25

@Pringle2223 definitely not crazy although I'm not sure how possible that is (not that it's not possible but I wouldn't know how commonly it happens)

how are you feeling now? Has anymore bleeding or cramping occurred? X

Pringle2223 · 04/08/2023 07:59

@Mangotango39 no bleeding or cramping at all, it’s completely stopped! Got to wait a week to be scanned again before they’ll manage it medically/surgically, which is horrible choice to make x

I wouldn't say you sound crazy. I would think like this for over a month after I lost our baby. I'd turn to my partner and say 'I wish we could go to the hospital theyd tell me they got it all wrong and our baby was just hiding in there somewhere' the only thing is if your baby didn't grow from your last scan at 9 weeks did you say? When you're 11 weeks now, then it's unlikely it's wrong as there's a significant difference in size by then. When I went for my scan at nearly 12 weeks and they asked to go internal I KNEW then before they told me there was no HB that it was bad news cos I knew they should be able to see baby externally by then. I'm so sorry for your loss and be kind to yourself, I still cry now and it's been nearly 2 months x

Pringle2223 · 04/08/2023 14:03

@midnights0 bless you ❤️ I think it’s hard to wrap your head around it being gone when you’ve not started bleeding properly but what you’ve said makes sense. I’m sorry you’ve been through this too I hope you’re doing ok xx

@Pringle2223 I'm so sorry for what you're going through, I just went through my second missed miscarriage. With my first I only had a tiny bit of ping tinged mucus the day before a private scan at 10+4 which showed baby had stopped growing at 9 weeks, no bleeding or cramping. It was so hard to get my head around the fact that my body hadn't really seemed to notice the baby had died, especially since we had a scan at 7 weeks where everything was absolutely fine and on track. I chose surgical management and 4 days later (when I went in for surgery) I still hadn't had any signs something had happened (not even any more pink mucus).

The second one we had an early scan at 7+4 which showed baby was a few days behind and with a really, really slow heartbeat. A week later a second scan, stronger heartbeat but hadn't grown at all (by this stage I was 12 days behind). And 10 days after that a final scan where baby hadn't grown past the previous scan and heart had stopped - I should have been 10+1 but was measuring 7 weeks. On this pregnancy I had some pink mucus (very light) before the first and second scans, and after the second scan I began spotting, a mix of pink, red and brown, but never had cramps or any real bleeding (was only when wiping). I knew this one was over because of how far behind I was. I had surgical management for this one just over 2 weeks ago and got a negative hcg test 2 weeks after surgery (took that long for the hormones to go down).

Missed miscarriages are brutal because it's so hard to get your head around the fact it's over without feeling any different. Waiting for confirmation scans etc is horrible too. Thinking of you and hope you can make a decision on management soon do you can move forward xx

@moosey89 sorry to hear you’ve gone through this, hope you are doing ok? I’ve had two previous MC which happened naturally. This one is a bit weird as I had moderate spotting which is why I had the scan, but it’s pretty much stopped now. So I don’t know if this is an MMC or not? Sounds silly but I knew in my gut all along I would have an MMC, everyone kept saying I was paranoid but I just felt it. Makes it harder when you’ve seen/heard the heartbeat also.

How was the surgery? I am scared about the thought of that.

also find out I’m likely to lose my job about 3 hours after we’d been for the scan, so it’s been a really fab week 🙃 x

@Pringle2223 ugh I'm so sorry about the crap week. I've been made redundant twice so know the feeling! (Second time was start of COVID though so I don't really count it as half the world was made redundant!).

Honestly the surgery was absolutely fine. Practically no pain or cramps afterwards, just spotting for a week which didn't even touch the pad. It's not scary even though it feels like it at the time, and I just wanted the whole thing over with so I could move on if that makes sense. MMCs are so hard after you've heard the heartbeat, feels like you've been stolen from by someone close to you (that's the best description I can think of), like a real betrayal.

Being honest it's more the growth that's the issue rather than spotting as a lot of women spot and around 50% of them have zero issues, and it goes away. But if you know your dates and end up more than a week behind then I can't remember the stat the midwife gave me but the outcome is usually a bad one unfortunately 😞 the second scan, with the decent heartbeat for me is when I actually knew it wasn't going to last as I was measuring so far behind.

Is this potentially your third miscarriage in a row?x

Pringle2223 · 05/08/2023 17:13

@moosey89 yeah sort of, we had one 9 years ago at about 6/7 weeks- I think that was blighted ovum. Then before this, we had one in feb of this year which was about 5/6 weeks. This was the furthest we’d got so far, technically 11 weeks but baby stopped growing at 9ish weeks x
