i suggest speaking to the labour ward or day assessment unit if your hospital has one, they might ask you to go in for a check up. if it is the waters you need to have a proper check up for you and baby

iom08 · 27/02/2008 10:16

Did the fluid smell like wee? Are you leaking now? Even if you are not, you should put a pad on and contact your maternity unit. They will probably want to see you and investigate whether your waters have gone or not. Hope everything is ok

belgo · 27/02/2008 10:18

yes, I agree, you really need to get yourself checked at your maternity unit today.

Astrophe · 27/02/2008 10:26

Put a pad on, and if you need to change it, keep the old one - the widwife might want to see it (sorry, gross, but I guess they can look at it and see the fluid).

Definately call though, it's not a big stressy thing to have the midwife check, and you shouldn't feel worried about it being a false alarm, as they deal with false alarms all the time and wont bat an eyelid if it is.

Good luck

Happened to me too in 3rd trimester of pregnancy.

My understanding is that it's not a problem as long as the paper-thin pads are enough to absorb the fluid.

Peachy · 27/02/2008 10:42

I would really get it checked- esp. if you're feeling tired as it could become a big problem if its water and the tiredness is the start of an infection- that could be a life or death situation for the baby.

I know the school run issue is a worry (am 35+3, with 3 school aged kids myself and no close family so understand the juggling) but you HAVE to get it checked out.

FloriaTosca · 27/02/2008 10:47

Imachicken; is there no one who could do the school run for you...it really would be sensible to get checked out....totaly understand hating the emergency gynae ward but it would set your mind at rest if nothing else. A couple of the girls on my ante natal thread had the same problem at a similar stage, one was fine , the other had lost her hindwaters and needed monitoring.. she went to term (in fact over due)but without the antibiotics it could have been a different story....please go..better be safe than sorry..the nurses would much rather treat a dozen false alarms than one serios panic

RTKangaDYSONMummy · 27/02/2008 10:49

Deffo go nd get it checked and don't be fobbed off

If you think it is NOT wee then tell them that you neeed the pads that change colour when it is baby fluid

{mind you this was 13 years ago so the procedure may have changed}

good luck

welcome to Mumsnet

chinchi · 27/02/2008 10:52

Hun please get checked out. I was having trouble in my pregnancy and waters broke at 29 weeks. Ended up having ECS and all because I ummed and aahhhed about getting checked out.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 27/02/2008 10:54

Yes do get it checked. However...

TMI alert, if you swam yesterday, or even had a bath, you can er, get to a point in pregnancy where everything loosens up a bit and you can take on a surprising amount of water. It doesn't always come back out the minute you stand up. So it could be that. It could also be a huge increase in discharge.

Good luck.
