why would you only be doing 6 out of the 8 weeks? Do you mean you’ve been signed off poorly or something?

Yeah been on sick

You’re still employed though so still “working” just was signed off on the sick. If you only get statutory sick pay it will affect how much SMP you get for the first 6 weeks but won’t stop you getting it

allgoodthings84 · 01/08/2023 13:20

You get 90% of your average pay over the qualifying 8 weeks for the first 6 weeks of SMP

it was annoying for me that it was those particular weeks as it was mostly before I got a pay rise of over £100 every 4 weeks (take home) 😂 if it was closer to the end I would get more.

dementedpixie · 01/08/2023 13:20

You would need to average out your earnings over those 8 weeks to see if you still meet the criteria for SMP (average of £123 each week).

It will affect the amount you get in the 90% part of SMP too as that will be based on the average over the 8 weeks too.

Toddler101 · 01/08/2023 13:21

The pay you receive during that qualifying period will determine how much SMP you get. It'll be used to calculate the initial '90% of your salary for 6w' that makes up the start of your SMP.
so if you're earning sick pay in the qualifying period, that'll be what they base the calculation on.

I'm going to go back next week. So I'll work 6 weeks of the qualifying period so hopefully won't affect it too much x

You'll still be eligible (as long as you meet the rest of the criteria), just might receive slightly less SMP for those first 6w.

I don't mind if its going to be slightly less tbh. We'll manage.
