Hey guys, I am 9wks 5days since LMP (9wks 1 my dates and measurements . Have been bleeding for about 9 days, started as red bleed, never a flow as such but a good amount when wiping. Turned to brown before becoming brown clots . I had a scan the day of the red bleed and was told it was threatened miscarriage , I phoned again to say the bleed / spotting hadn’t stop and was brown and was given an appointment for today . Showed pics to doctor of discharge , done abdominal scan and baby nowhere to be seen (have had two scans observing the pregnancy ) was told it was a miscarriage and to empty bladder before vaginal scan (don’t know exact name sorry) baby was fine!! Measuring correct and good heartbeat and movement considering gestational age . Was prescribed Cyclogest until dating scan , any ideas on side effects etc? Bit apprehensive and nervous . Also nervous as to why my pregnancy didn’t show abdominally when it has twice , thanks guys

There are no side effects. It’s literally to support gestation so take it.

FiddleLeaf · 31/07/2023 19:39

I’m on Cyclogest (pregnant with ivf baby 🥳) and I’ve had no side effects but I do prefer the erm back door. Less mess & you can just pop it in and get straight on with your day.

BTW they do melt so keep them cool!

Sorry you’ve had such a rough time. You must be exhausted by it all.

Most people who have done IVF will be of some sort of progesteron pessaries.
Usually until 10/12 weeks!!!

Ive had no side effects, but other people in my group have reported bloating and tiredness, that they associate with the pessaries.

They are MESSY! Wear a pad!

Hope everything goes well!

Im also on them and i also prefer up the back door! Lots less mess and i got irritated putting them in the V. Once u have done the first u get used to it and becomes easy. The side effects ive had are sore boobs, wild dreams and mild cramping.

Flowerlover010 · 31/07/2023 19:48

P.s. i thought all scans before 12 weeks should be done vaginally for that exact reason that they cant see everything if not.

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 31/07/2023 19:52

I also used cyclogest to support an IVF pregnant, when I used them vaginally they irritated my vagina and I got thrush like symptoms however once I switched to back door insertion I had no more issues.

Kilminchy123 · 31/07/2023 19:59

Thanks so much guys!! So helpful . Just a bit clueless but I’ll definitely try back passage instead ! @Flowerlover010 very true I was under the same impression, but at my private scan 6+3 she done abdominally and picked up everything so didn’t bother the other way. Same at first scan when bleeding. So got such a fright when no baby observed and told miscarriage . Perhaps bladder wasn’t full enough . Thanks a million guys

@Kilminchy123 honestly wish id just done it up the back in the first place sooo much better honestly. I thought i had thrush but no just turned out to be irritation.

I've used cyclogest several times and agree that rectal was better. Initially uncomfortable, yes, but FAR less mess. I found a tiny amount of KY on the tip helped ease them in. Using them vaginally, they melted quickly, I had to wear a panty liner and would end up with a white paste everywhere. Best of luck OP x

SM4713 · 31/07/2023 20:15

I forgot- I don't recall any symptoms at all with cyclogest! Nothing I could distinguish from pregnancy symptoms.

Rpsches917 · 31/07/2023 21:24

Hi @Kilminchy123 I'm also taking cyclogest (recurrent miscarriages so prescribed by consultant to start as soon as I found out I was pregnant). No symptoms that I have noticed either and 100% agree back door is the way to go!

Hi OP, congratulations on your pregnancy and sorry it’s been such a worrying time.

I was on Cyclogest from 6-16 weeks due to bleeding in early pregnancy and miscarriage history. I’ll never know if it’s the reason baby stayed safe but I now have a 5 month old, so it definitely played it’s part.

No strange side effects so absolutely worth taking them. I couldn’t use rectally annoyingly because they made it really burn when going for a number 2. I went with vaginally, laid down for 20 minutes after inserting and wore a liner every day.

Best of luck x

I’m similar to you, had lots of bleeding from 6-9 weeks so was put on cyclogest until 16 weeks. Taking them vaginally was a complete no go, it’s so hard to keep them in and if you’re already bleeding it’s even harder. They irritated me so much and basically gave me thrush. So I do them rectally and I have still had some irritation and itching but nowhere near as annoying. They’ve also made me very bloated. Interesting that a pp mentioned dreams as my dreams have also been insane! But that could just be pregnancy. I’m 13 weeks now and touch wood everything seems ok.

No side effects for me! And even if they are, they will be mild (bloating, tiredness). Don't worry and take it as prescribed. This is to support your pregnancy and keep progesterone levels high!
