ONE random contraction?!

Something weird happened last night and I swear I had one random contraction, and then nothing. I'm 37+6 and not really looking for signs of labour as my son was induced at 41 weeks after waters broke. So I feel like I'm not symptom spotting...I'm not expecting a baby until 41-42 weeks in my head 🤣
But I was lying in bed last night, and then suddenly got a wave of pain that made my tummy and back feel tight and a bit burny and sore, I breathed through it, and it went. And that was it. It definitely peaked and then went again.

Other than a lot of lightening crotch type pain where baby is pushing down and the occasional period type cramp, nothing else is going on (although admittedly I didn't get this at all with my son).

Has anyone heard of having one random contraction before? I've experienced contractions before and it really felt like a wave of pain that I breathed through....but could it have been Braxton Hicks?

Am now at work and haven't even told my husband tbh because I figure this could go on for weeks and he doesn't need to know about every twinge until something happens for certain. But I don't think I was expecting it and found it a bit weird!

That sounds a lot like how my braxton hicks were… whole bump goes tight and sore for a couple of minutes and they also used to make me feel like I needed to wee.

Oh bless you, my dc2 came out of the blue pretty much a few weeks before due date, woke up to pains and they were every ten mins, never went away.
It was either a really strong braxton hick or jusy a crazy one off contraction.
Could still be forever but try and take it easy as you can. I also expected to go ovedue 🤣

@Hazelnuttella I'm thinking maybe it was BH? Really weird though! Maybe I never had BH in my previous pregnancy. I've had a few incidents this time where my bump has gone tight, but never sore. Very odd!

@Princesspeachee oh wow, no signs at all! How amazing! My waters broke with no warning at all at 40+6 last time, but then contractions never established....I was induced and he was born via emergency section at 41+1. I'm expecting to go to at least 41 weeks this time, and hospital need me to book a back up c section for 41-42 weeks so I'm already prepping for that 41-42 week battle of vbac vs section 🤣

Sounds like that's a stressful dilemma in itself.
I'm assuming they are steering away from induction because of previous section?
As long as you're happy with movements and how baby is doing then I would book the section for as far as they will let you and get bouncing on the ball!
Hope you get your vbac and it goes smoothly!

I had one of these last week, midwife said it sounded like a Braxton Hick. I was 36 weeks at the time. Not had any since that one. Lol

Well there are Braxton Hicks (which for me at least aren't painful, just tight and uncomfortable) and then there are contractions (which for me are painful). I have had random painful contractions with all of mine, all in the three weeks before delivery iirc. Can be just a couple of random ones, or a whole evening of regular ones. They disappear and that's that for a few days! Maybe you are having the same thing? Look up prodromal labour. I don't think just one contraction would count, but if you get more maybe this is what's happening.

The difference I had with braxton hicks and the start of my actual labour was that braxton hicks were across the whole bump, including the front and top and it was a tightening - my bump went hard. It was sore too.

With labour pains/ early contractions for me it was very much in my lower back and very low down - and achey, more like period pains to begin with.

However I’m sure people experience them differently.
