Would I be selfish to try induce labour at 38 weeks?

I’m 38 weeks and totally ready to get this baby out of me, but is baby ready? I don’t want to do anything that could possibly put my baby at risk or make him come when he’s not ready. I’m being induced at 40 weeks due to gestational diabetes and I want to try so hard to avoid it and go naturally. So I have 14 days until then. Baby’s measuring 7lbs 5oz already which is good? (I’m aware this can be very wrong) so do you think it would be okay for me to try a few old wives tales to see if anything happens? Would like to add baby is fully engaged so that’s a good start. But would I be selfish to try induce labour at this stage?

Also fully aware these old wives tales don’t necessarily work and baby will come when ready. But just incase. Is it safe at this stage or not?

Yes baby is fully cooked. Go ahead and try the hot curries ;)

Can’t be any harm in doing the natural things? Raspberry leaf tea, sitting on yoga ball etc? Good luck!

At 38 weeks to jokingly told DH I'd had enough and wanted this baby out. We DTD and DC was born 12 hours later!!

Baby's not going to come until they're ready, no matter how many hot curries or how much sex you have, so you may as well enjoy yourself while you wait Grin good luck!

Hi @newtothis23x i had to be induced as baby was overdue, went through an 18 hr labour and in the end had to have an emergency c-section. I wish i had done more to bring about my labour.
The nurse kept saying walk and bounce on the ball. I really regret not doing it more, i'd do 5 mins then sit. This time i think i'll walk more and try walking uphill - give it go if you can. Congratulations on your pregnancy xx

My son came at 38 weeks on the dot, I had been running around the park with dogs (dog walkers) at 37 weeks 5 days when suddenly I got brief contractions and then my waters broke😅. Labour struggled to progress alone as I don't think my body was quite ready yet but at exactly 38 weeks he was born at 7 lbs, perfectly fine, we went home the next day. He's 5 now. The natural stuff won't hurt, even if it doesn't induce labour it might help your body get ready for labour to make it quicker when it begins 😊

Trying a bit of rumpy pumpy might start it off. The hormone in semen is supposed to soften the cervix to start labour if baby is ready to pop out.
I was told this by a midwife so I'm guessing it's legit 😉 it worked for me but I was 40 weeks + 3 days 😁😁

personally I’d try to wait until 39 weeks as 37/38 weeks is early term but 39/40 weeks is full term. That extra week can really help allow the lungs to fully mature. You can try sex, orgasm, get the oxytocin flowing so massage, warm baths, comedies. Clary sage in a carrier oil rubbed on your bump. I’d avoid spicy food and pineapple etc as that irritates your bowel and not what you’d want in labour. If you haven’t already started taking raspberry leaf tea there isn’t much point starting now as it tones the uterus, it doesn’t start labour. Walk sideways up stairs, curb walking. But ultimately if you’re body isn’t ready yet, none of it will do anything to start labour

People say they don't work, but sex and a looong walk brought it on for me, I'm sure of it!

RecycleMePlease · 30/07/2023 16:19

Oh - it's miserable from this point on. Give all the old-wives-tales a go, but maintain a sense of humour.

Mine ended up being evicted (infact both of mine) at 40 weeks plus...

Go for it I did all the suggestions, walks, sex, spicy food, birth ball, yoga, raspberry leaf tea and I think there were others and had a healthy happy baby at 43 weeks.
