Weird one - disease from ducks??

I know I will sound like a lunatic but I’m going to say it anyway šŸ™ˆ
Today I took my children to a park. We walked by the duck pond where there were ducks, geese and birds. There was no contact with the animals but it was virtually impossible to avoid walking over the vast amounts of duck, geese and bird poo over the pathway. Didn’t think much of it at the time.
Got home and I went to put my kids shoes away and I noticed some muck on the bottom of one of the shoes. Potentially could have been duck poo, I don’t know.
My concern is, my child walked partly down my hallway before sitting down to remove her shoes. There are no marks on the carpet but me and my other children will have walked barefoot over the carpet that the dirty shoe had walked on. Is there any chance of contracting some kind of disease or illness from this??
I’m 21 weeks pregnant and anxious about everything!
I’m so annoyed as I’m so strict on removing shoes at the door but my little girl got halfway down the hall before remembering this particular time.
Anyone know about disease in birds etc? Xxx

No. Really, really no. There would have to be a significant amount of faeces and you would all have to have open sores on the soles of your feet to be at any risk at all.

Are you receiving support for your anxiety? This is quite extreme.

It’s very difficult (and very rare) to catch avian flu, or other diseases birds get. My friend works for the RSPB and rehabs sick birds, autopsies dead ones, catches and rings birds. She’s been doing this for over 20 years, without getting any bird related illness. You need to have close and prolonged contact with sick birds and even then you’d be incredibly unlikely to get ill. It’s amazing the things that pre and post natal anxiety can make you worry about. And utterly horrible to be on constant red alert for possible risks/hazards. Have you spoken to anyone who is looking after you about it? If not, it’s a very good idea. It’s a very common thing to experience and there should be help out there.

Pretty unlikely unless you were to lick the carpet and even then still unlikely. Ducks can carry salmonella but it is INCREDIBLY unlikely for you to catch it in the circumstances you describe.
