Anyone now what 'redistribution' blood flow means?

I am 37 weeks pg and had a scan today which showed that the baby has abnormal blood flow both in the cord and in his brain. Apparently, it is called 'redistribution' blood flow. The sonographer didn't seem too worried by this and said she thought the results were probably wrong as the baby is normal weight. But, after redoing the scan several times the results were still coming up the same so I have have to go back first thing to be rescanned and see the consultant.

I did ask what all this meant but she just kept saying that she thought the results were wrong so there was no point worrying yet. Of course, I am now panicking .

Has anyone else had this 'redistribution blood flow' or know what it is?

Also should I not have been kept in and monitored if there is any chance of there being something wrong with the baby's blood flow since this is his only source of oxygen?

Sorry, for the long post am just that in the absence of having anything explained to me at the hospital, I am imagining the worst now.

Thanks

Alex

Afraid I don't know but will bump incase any Drs or midwives are online. Hope everything is okay. Seems v inappropriate for sonographer to diagnose something and then refuse to explain what she had found and leave you worried. Could you phone your on call midwife and just ask if you need to be monitored? She might be able to reassure you over the phone or explain things.

I have not heard it talked about in that term but I suspect(I may very well be wrong) they are taking about the arterial flow through the placenta. It can cause problems most severely in early pregnancy it means the baby growth is slow and can cause problems with the gut and other organs. All the babies I looked after who had this problem were born early but most were extremely feisty and with a little extra support did really really well. BUT as you are 37 weeks and I assume the midwife has had no concerns about this baby being small for dates so if it is this it has not been a problem for long so any problems will be extremely limited. To ensure your baby remains well they may wish to induce you asap but you are 37 weeks this is considered term and there are no risks although they may wish to keep an eye on them for longer than normal.

If they were really concerned you would have been kept in I suspect they are just being cautious. Try to et some sleep and not worry too much about it I am sure you will both be fine.
