Cyclogest Pessaries

Hi everyone, I’m currently 12+4 with my second pregnancy after miscarrying with my first pregnancy in 2021. Everything was perfect at my 12 week scan.
I’ve been on the Cyclogest pessaries twice a day since finding out I was pregnant and I was told to stop these at 13 weeks. Has anyone else stopped these after 13 weeks after previous miscarriages and their pregnancy has continued successfully? I’m so worried about stopping as some guidance says 13 weeks and some says 16 but my consultant is convinced 13 weeks is fine. I’ve convinced myself that these pessaries are the only thing keeping my pregnancy going and I’m extremely anxious to stop taking them.

I tapered off between 12-14 weeks and DD is lying in my arms now. She was pregnancy #7

Following! It's nerve-wracking stopping isn't it! I was told to stop at 16 weeks (but clinic only put me on them because I asked to stay on them after multiple miscarriages). I am having a lot of painful bloating and suspect it is the cyclogest so I am thinking I might do like stylish and start to taper off from 12 weeks.

...and I stopped at 12 weeks with my son and all was well. I remember being very anxious about it though.

Like a PP I tapered mine off gradually between 13-16 weeks. I'd lost 3 babies in a row before then. DS is 11 months old; healthy and happy and the joy of our lives.

Thank you everyone! So glad to hear it’s been good news for you all, definitely makes me feel a little better about coming off of them xx

Hi,
could someone tell me how you were able to identify that you needed this medication? Was it a blood test to check serum progesterone? I lost my last pregnancy at 12 weeks and no testing was done for progesterone and I don’t know why the baby died. I am five weeks pregnant again and terrified I will have another miscarriage. Could it already be too late for me to test for this again and potentially start medication? Best wishes for your pregnancy! I’m sorry for previous loss x

@Lemonvalley first of all the NHS guidance has changed to say that GP’s can prescribe this for anyone who has had a previous MC or bleeding in a pregnancy, you just need to push for it and tell them that you’re aware of this guidance as some are reluctant to prescribe. But yes I had already had bloods done as we had been referred for IVF but was so lucky to get caught pregnant without it. I hope you managed to get sorted and get this prescribed and that your pregnancy is progressing well! X

I think the NICE guidelines are >1 previous MC, or 1 previous MC and bleeding in a current pregnancy.

The guideline’s unfortunately do say though that they will only prescribe if the pregnancy has been confirmed by a scan, which isn’t until 6 weeks.

im currently going through this - 5 weeks pregnant with my second and had brown spotting on and off. My GP was clueless at first and said ‘progesterone isn’t prescribed until the second and third trimester’ I told her that it is as it’s what I did last time and told her about the NICE guidelines (but I didn’t know about the scan requirement) she called the gyn unit to check and then told me to book a scan with them at 6 weeks and then she would prescribe.

I had 2 losses before my first child so I felt I couldn’t wait another week of more. I went to a private clinic who do appts with consultants over zoom (the same one I used last time) and they will email me a letter and prescription. Im hoping that with the letter I can get progesterone sooner and on the NHS. The clinic is Nova fertility.

fingers crossed for you and sorry for your loss xx

@Nellie1209 thanks so much for replying. I asked my GP about getting progesterone and she said it wasn’t something they do! I’ve got an appt to see an obstetrician next week and apparently they can and do prescribe a lot more. Ive had to wait weeks to get in to see this obstetrician and by the time I do, I’ll be 9 weeks (if I make it that far). The medical system is so hard to navigate, the doctors seem so clueless about so many things, and listening to what women have said on this thread I can see I’m not alone in having to push and advocate so hard for myself. I insisted on getting my progesterone level tested at 5 wks and it was 80. I had to do my own research and saw this was typical of a normal week 5 pregnancy. I’ve made it to 8 weeks and my biggest current concern is that I am not experiencing enough nausea. I have nausea, but it comes and goes and I haven’t needed to vomit once. With my daughter I had hyperemesis and I just can’t imagine why I would escape it a second time around unless there’s something wrong. It’s impossible not to worry about everything after pregnancy loss, isn’t it. The waiting is torture. Wishing everyone luck and thanks for sharing x

I had supplemented progesterone as part of my IVF cycle so it really WAS the only thing keeping the pregnancy going. I tapered off at 10 weeks and all was well. Congratulations and good luck! The placenta will now be producing what you need.
