Being induced, due to gestational diabetes

Hi all, I got diagnosed with low pap a at my 12 week scan then on top of that at 32 weeks I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes I am now 34 weeks and I've been put on metformin because the baby has a large abdomen. I'm quite worried about being induced at 38 weeks due to the GD and wonder what outcome people have had from this to help ease my mind as I only seem to see bad stories about being induced and is there anything I can do to bring natural labour on beforehand?. This is my second baby my first was a breeze no problems natural labour.

I was induced at 38 weeks and I had the most wonderful experience. My waters were broken and I was put on a hormone drip and although it wasn’t the birth I had in my head, it was still beautiful and super empowering. I focussed on the things I did have control of - the lighting, music, smells I wanted etc. my labour was 6 hours start to finish.

Hi, I was induced 6 years ago for the same reason. He didn't end up being too big or anything. He was fine. I had a sweep early morning, nothing happened but then later on in the evening they decided to break my waters and then I was put on a drip. Contractions pretty much started straight away and the whole birth took around 6 hours. I liked that I literally knew when I'd be coming home with my baby..

They said that the contractions may come on faster than a normal labour, just be prepared and direct about what pain relief you'd like and anything else. If there's anything you don't want doing speak up. In hindsight I would've refused the sweeps (I had 2). Apart from the NHS being on its arse (was extremely short staffed that day, and I felt like they delayed on purpose getting the anaesthetist for an epidural) it wasn't bad! Good luck!

I had an induction at 37+6 and had the birth I envisioned & hoped for. They put the pessary in at 8:30pm which kick started things quite quickly and I had contractions through the night. The pessary was removed in the morning as it wasn’t working well for me and baby. I was taken to labour delivery suite soon after as I was at 6cm if I remember right. Then I was just using gas and air & free to use the yoga ball & labour however I wanted.Squatted my son out at 2pm.

Try to go in with a positive mindset & listen to your body. Hopefully you’ll have a lovely experience.
