What prenatals are people taking in first trimester? I’ve used zita West preconception and wondering if worth carrying on with her first trimester supplements though 3 a day is a lot!

Whatever was 3 for 2 at Sainsburys 😆I think they're Seven Seas. Folic acid's the only thing that really matters for the baby, everything else is to try to keep your teeth from falling out while the baby sucks the essence out of you 😀

Vitamin D and folic acid are all you need to take in the first trimester, vitamin D for the rest of the pregnancy. Congratulations 🥳

PickledScrump · 24/07/2023 22:10

Folic acid and vitamin D is what’s recommended. But if you want a good pregnancy multivitamin, proceive is a really good one

Charlielechat · 25/07/2023 19:50

I also take Proceive and baby seems to be developing well so far (17 weeks)

@PickledScrump how long have you taken Proceive for? I'm conscious that there's a lot of B12 in it but no midwife I've spoken to seems to know much about it!

PickledScrump · 25/07/2023 20:44

@Charlielechat ive been taking it since I found out and I’m now 27 weeks. Up to 2000mcg is considered safe levels of B12 and proceive has 50mcg so I wouldn’t say excessively high. B12 deficiency can cause problems, I’m assuming your worries are due to the research about high b12 levels and autism? In which case hopefully this helps

@Bertiebean I'm still taking the zita west, no issues with them apart from it's a lot of tablets to take but they have 'better' ingredients than the cheap ones - 'better' is subjective I guess!

Cheetocat · 25/07/2023 20:46

I take pregnacare. I had the gummies first and enjoyed them but also find the tablets good. They have good levels of folate and Vitamin D.

Charlielechat · 25/07/2023 21:13

@PickledScrump yes that was my worry. Thanks for sending that! I suppose there has only been one study looking at the B12/autism link (I think?). I liked that Proceive has a good mixture of everything, so makes me feel better on days when my diet isn't great!

PickledScrump · 25/07/2023 21:43

@Charlielechat i used pregnacare with my other 2 but the last one I ended up with low iron despite taking them. I did quite a bit of research this time and proceive seemed to come out on top for being easily absorbed and I’m running around after a toddler so my diet isn’t the best this time. I don’t think there’s enough in them to cause excessive amounts of anything. Usually your body just gets rid of anything it doesn’t absorb through urine.

Bertiebean · 25/07/2023 21:57

Thanks everyone - I wonder if these things actually make much difference but one less thing to worry about i think!

Just Boots folic acid and vitamin D, your diet should provide everything else unless midwife advises something else

VillageFete · 25/07/2023 21:59

For the first 13 weeks I took Zita West Pregnancy plan, I stopped after that. They have 400mcg Folate in.

I’m now 20 weeks and have taken Vitamin D, Choline and Omega 3 throughout, and will up until I give birth.
