First Midwife Contact

Hi, I'm now 9 weeks pregnant and have had no contact from a midwife.
I called my GP when I got my positive test at ~5 weeks, then they directed me to call the midwifery unit, took my details and said the midwife would be in touch. After hearing nothing for 2 weeks I called again at 7 weeks and they said they would chase but still no one seems to be contacting me. I live in NE Scotland and this is my first pregnancy - is it normal to wait this long for first contact? I feel I can't ask any friends as I don't feel comfortable sharing any news until scan/tests are done.

Hi OP, ideally you'd have your booking appointment between 8 to 10 weeks, so I would definitely chase them again. Point out that you'd like the blood tests etc so really need this ASAP.

It can be normal, I think it depends on where you live. I'm down in southeast England and was told depending how busy they were my 1st appt could be around 10 weeks (I'm currently 10 weeks and had my 1st appt at 8 weeks).

Definitely keep chasing as I would have thought you'd at least have been given a date for an appt by now, even if they weren't going to see you until 10-12 weeks.

Keep chasing. I self referred at 4+5, got a phone call to make the appointment at 6 weeks and my appointment is tomorrow at 9+5.

I'd call again, seems like a long time! Also NE Scotland and I did an econsult to gp and midwife called back to book me in within a few days so something doesn't seem right

You need to be seen before they send off for your 12 week scan date so you ideally want to be in soon!

For all 3 pregnancies I heard at about 8 weeks (having notified them at 5/6) with a date for booking in appointment at 10 weeks and a seaparate letter with scan date of just before 13 weeks -got that letter between 9&11 weeks.

Thanks very much everyone - you're all stars Star I'll try a call again tomorrow to chase up an appointment.. I just wanted a gauge on timelines before so I wasn't being too pushy!

Hi @timeslikethese24 i had my midwife appt at 9 weeks and 5 days. They should have issued you with at least an appt letter.
Congratulations on your pregnancy xx

I feel so frustrated :(
I finally got a voicemail from the midwife today after chasing for the third time on Monday. I tried to call back but no pick up. The voicemail said the first availability for the booking appointment isn't for another couple of weeks at which point I'll be 11+6 - this seems really late for first contact/tests.
Do NHS dating scans typically have a backlog too? Worried it's going to be weeks before I get any indication that everything is ok or not :(
