Ladies please help!

how on lords earth do you shave your legs and vajayjay at 39 weeks pregnant!

Being in the bath is a struggle as I can't see where I need to shave and also can't get my legs up to shave them

Being in the shower is even more of a struggle trying to bend and shave blind cause of this huge stomach I have attatched to me haha.

I'm a single mam aswell so I don't have the luxury of having the dad shave me 😭😭

Haha please help before I have to rock up to give labour like a gorilla

Thanks x

You don't need to shave your vulva! Honestly, midwives have seen everything and don't care. Shaving your vulva must be so itchy, even if you could see what you're doing! If you really want to shave your legs, put a washing up bowl on a low table and then stand, putting one foot in the bowl. Wet you leg, apply gel, shave. It's not the easiest with a bump but probably easier than lying in the bath. But honestly, the midwives really won't mind if you're not all silky smooth!

Garman · 23/07/2023 17:14

Eh, you don't? Body hair is natural, nobody cares if you have hair any bit of you in a maternity ward/hospital.

I actually can't imagine anything worse than asking my partner to shave me, literally the very last word I would describe that with would be luxury.

GrazingSheep · 23/07/2023 17:15

Pubic hair is completely normal.
Nobody will care.

MonsterCalling · 23/07/2023 17:17

I don’t think this is what you want to hear but you shouldn’t really, especially your upper thighs and vulva. If you need a CS you will be at increased risk for infections if you have shaved within the last week. For your legs, if you really need to depilate you could book in for a wax, or use a hair removal cream as long as you do a patch test first.

SouthwestSis · 23/07/2023 18:22

Don't bother would be my advice, least of your worries!

Nelbert19 · 23/07/2023 18:53

Yeesh I wouldn’t chance blindly shaving my nether regions! 🫣 Nor would I want to be putting hair removal creams or epilators anywhere I can’t see either!

i didn’t bother for my last labour (and the midwives absolutely don’t care), but if you prefer feeling more groomed I’m afraid a wax by a third party is the best answer

TakeMe2Insanity · 23/07/2023 18:56

If you are desperate get a wax and take a paracetamol before hand.

Ttcmumma · 23/07/2023 19:04

I used to take a small mirror into the shower with me 🤣 I shaved the whole way through x

Anotherchristianmama · 23/07/2023 19:07

I didn't. Nobody is going to care what you look like.

Fink · 23/07/2023 19:17

You don't need to do anything. Midwives won't judge you, you have other things to think about and so do they.

If they need to, they will ask to shave your vulva (for certain procedures).

If you desperately want to go hairless, get a wax at a salon. That's your only realistic option.

Sunshinevibes91 · 23/07/2023 19:27

Sit in the bath with the shower running to shave your legs , I used a mirror to shave my girly part couldn't bare the thought of having a bush going into labour with all 3 of mine 😂 . I'll be doing the same this time aswell

FlamingoBabe · 23/07/2023 21:00

If you do, just bear in mind regrowth!! The last thing you want is itchy bits post birth 😬

lavenderdilly · 23/07/2023 21:48

I use a little hand mirror!

But I don't use a razor, I use an electric trimmer otherwise it's a bit dangerous and also not recommended this close to labour. I just keep it tidy.

I don't have a problem shaving my legs though, just the normal way in the shower.

Boltonb · 23/07/2023 21:52

I absolutely wouldn’t shave at 39 weeks pregnant - you’re setting yourself up for potential infection when you go into hospital.

Everything you read will advise you not to shave at this point

ASGIRC · 23/07/2023 22:47

Haha I have been thinking about this as well!
Not that I have this problem just yet, but I am trying for a baby.

To the PPs saying no one cares... its not about the other people caring, its about the OP caring!

Thank you to the PPs who have given suggestions! I will be using a mirror!

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 23/07/2023 22:52

if you lie on your back in the bath you can lift your legs and shave them.

Cant help with any higher as I’ve never shaved there pregnant or not.

I will say though there’s no reason to feel you have to show any part of your body you don’t feel comfortable with showing, to anyone, regardless of pregnancy.

K37529 · 23/07/2023 23:27

Also 39 weeks and it is a struggle lol I use a mirror, and just shave down so far because it's almost impossible to do and I don't want to cut myself. With the legs I put one on the tap while in the bath and just do the best I can. Honestly your midwife is not going to care about hair so if it's too much bother just leave it

38andtrying · 24/07/2023 07:04

My last midwife appointment they gave me a leaflet which said not to shave/wax/hair removal cream for 6 weeks before due date, my face must have been a horror, I would much prefer to be tidy down there also but the midwives don't want that anymore even if you can manage it. She said there's a chance of infection and so many women want to hair remove hence why they've had to go to bother of a leaflet, I think ill defo try and trim at least though lol

It’s not so much about who cares or not. Removing hair very close to the birth significantly increases the risks of infection.

CurlewKate · 24/07/2023 07:20

Don't. Hope this helps.

Diddykong · 24/07/2023 07:26

I'd say don't bother and medical people don't care but I had to have an ultrasound randomly a few weeks ago in a&e and the medical person doing it made me feel awful for being a bit stubbly. He had to turn my waist band down to do it revealing long stubble and said "ah you did not prepare to be seen like this today did you?" Pointing at the hair. I felt mortified and so embarrassed. He was an idiot (and shamed other people loudly across the waiting room too for various reasons) but it does happen.

OrlandointheWilderness · 24/07/2023 07:55

Carefully! I gave up with the bikini area by then (and I like everything off) and have a beautiful 3" scar on my leg where I managed to shave the skin off whole heavily pregnant!

It slightly increases the risk of infection. And that's whether you are pregnant or not.
Inuse a trimmer anyway, so even less risk.

ASGIRC · 24/07/2023 09:33

@Diddykong that's actually disgusting! I'd be complaining about him, as that's no way to talk to anyone, at any time, particularly when you're in a vulnerable position, like being in hospital!!

FuckOffMadameGazelle · 24/07/2023 09:35

OP if you want to shave, shave.
It's all good everyone saying 'don't bother, hair is natural blah blah' - if you don't feel comfortable then shave. Just crouch down with a mirror on the floor or propped up and be careful and take your time.

I shaved the night before my section, I didn't want to go into theatre with a full bush of pubes personally. Not everyone feels comfortable with it.
I also personally couldn't stand the feeling of hair / pubes when I was heavily pregnant.
