Stretchmarks

Hey, so my mum and sis had some pretty noticeable stretch marks that were pretty red, long, and everywhere. I'm starting to think that I might be prone to them too and I'm kind of working myself up about it. I've got some friends who had babies and their tummies went back to normal without many stretch marks, which would be amazing! But, I know it likely won't be the case for me. Have any of you tried using creams or oils to prevent them or any treatments that helped afterwards? Would appreciate any advice, thanks!

Stretch marks occur in the deeper layer of the skin which is deeper than any lotions or oils can penetrate. Unfortunately there really isn’t much you can do to prevent them, it really is genetics. That said using a cream can really help ease any itching and dryness, and using it afterwards can help them fade faster.

if you want to treat yourself mama mio tummy butter rub smells amazing and feels lovely. If you want a cheaper option Superdrug vitamin e body cream is great too. Also drinking plenty of water so your skin stays hydrated

Oh man! You know I kind of knew this but wanted to be convinced otherwise 🤣 I think I'm going to slather myself with oils and pray. Bloody genetics! Will look into mama mio tummy, sounds right up my alley, thanks 😊!

Hi there, I'm prone to stretch marks - have them on my thighs from my teenage years. However I have no stretch marks from my two pregnancies and I was huge for both.

I made sure I used bio oil twice daily or every time I bathed or showered. I used lots, and applied liberally. I got the real stuff, no dupes. I treated the areas that would be stretched; so thighs, inner thighs, boobs and abdomen. My skin on my stomach has no stretch marks and isn't like 'chicken skin'. It was very effective for me.

I already have some stretch marks on my tummy from teenage years and thought that I would 100% get them in pregnancy! I was absolutely huge when I was pregnant and lathered myself in coco butter every night. It probably wasn't that which helped but I didn't get one in pregnancy somehow! Maybe it was because my stomach had already gotten them from teenage years and was already pre stretched 🤷🏻‍♀️ maybe just use a lotion or oil anyway because at least it keeps you supple lol

It's genetic, they'll sell you all kinds of fancy oil but it's basically sunflower oil called a fancy name! Even if you get red ones, they fade to silver.

I just slap on baby oil in the hope that it will make a difference. A lot of it is genetic but moisturising will definitely soothe even if it doesn't make a difference with stretch marks xx

I have some stretch marks from teenage years on my tights, breasts, but never developed stretch marks on belly and I'm 35 weeks on third pregnancy. I never used any lotions or oils either. So I guess it's all genetics and maybe also speed in which skin stretches.

It's not always genetic. I don't have a single stretch mark but my daughter as a teenager had some and she was never overweight, just developed a few silvery lines.

My mother never had any either.

I thought I had avoided them by using lots of neals yard mother's balm but they turned up at 33 weeks pregnant very suddenly. I have to say I don't mind them too much as they are all evidence of the amazingness of my body's stretching ability! That said, I am putting on sweet almond oil regularly and they seem to already look more faded

RatherBeRiding · 24/07/2023 12:27

I think it's a mixture of genetics, not gaining too much weight too quickly, and generally eating healthily to keep the skin in as good a condition as possible.

I took an omega 3 each day (pregnacare) ina diction to multi vit and used weleda stretch mark oil after showering and in the morning and didn’t get one on my stomach. My thighs and boobs are all read covered from teenage growth spurts. I truly believe these helped!

workshy46 · 24/07/2023 12:38

Clarins tonic, I have never know anyone who used it who got them. I have some from puberty and got none despite have big babies. I also put oil on before a shower as to not dry my skin and used shea butter if I was bored watching TV but I honestly swear by the Clarins tonic stuff. I had one friend who used it and didn't bother at 38 weeks and got them at 39 weeks !

I wouldn’t waste money on expensive oils or creams specifically for stretchmarks. Moisturise your belly every day with any moisturiser.

It’s true that they are genetic, and there’s nothing you can do to prevent them. The good news is that they will fade to very faint silvery/white lines in the future and won’t be red or angry for too long.
