TTC after a chemical pregnancy

I know there are a few threads about this but they're all a few years old and inactive, so I'd love to get a group of us in this together!

Myself and my husband started TTC in June 2023. Amazingly, we got a positive pregnancy test on 29th June, I was elated. It was 11 dpo, and the line was clear and unmistakeable. The night before I had the strongest implantation cramps, so I knew the test would be positive. The next day, I did another test and it was negative. Again the next two days, negative. I started bleeding on 3rd July. The bleeding for me was a bit lighter than my normal periods, and only lasted 4 days so it wasn't so bad - but emotionally I was destroyed.

The only thing that helped me emotionally was reading threads online where lots of women seem to say they conceived immediately or the following cycle after a chemical pregnancy. We started trying straight away - got my positive OPK on 18th July and had such strong ovulation pain that evening (much stronger than I've ever had before the chemical strangely). We BD'd on 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th July.

I'm now 2/3 DPO. Last night (1/2 dpo) I had a feeling like a stitch in my ovary and groin area on the same side I ovulated on, that radiated down my thigh and felt like growing pains! Today I still have mild stitch feeling down there, but much less. I googled it and think it might be corpus luteum pain - I don't think that's an indication of pregnancy (I wish) but again I've never felt it before this month.

Is anyone else out there also in the TWW immediately after a chemical, or conceived immediately after a chemical and can give me an idea of symptoms you had? Also, anyone else feel much more physical symptoms generally from ovulation and post-ovulation after a chemical?!

I am so desperate for my BFP this month, chemicals are so cruel. I'd love to say I won't test early again, but I will. Not only because I'm impatient, but also because I want to know if it happens again so I can go to the GP if there is a problem!

Baby dust to everyone xx

Alot of women concieve very quickly after a chemical, however if you don’t, there is no reason to panic.

I had a chemical in December after 6 months TTC and I was devastated! I like you, searched so many threads and so many women said they went on to conceive the following month or very quickly, so when this didn’t happen to me I got very upset. It actually took me until August to conceive again (8 months) and I am currently nearly 8 weeks. My advice would be not to compare too much as everybody is different!

and with regards to symptoms, take them with a pinch of salt, you are hyper aware of your body right now! I have had so many cycles I was convinced I was pregnant and wasn’t then the cycle I got my BFP I had no symptoms except period cramps and was convinced AF would show. TTC can really trick your mind!

That being said, the fact you got a positive pregnancy test after one month is very promising, means you know you ovulate and your partners sperm is all ok and was able to fertilise the egg, just sadly didn’t stick which is SO common! So I would try and relax and not get too carried away with symptoms spotting although its very hard not to!! Oh and try not to test too early, it really messes with your head and emotions! Good luck! Xx

@sg1994 sorry to hear about your recent chemical, they really are heartbreaking! I ovulated as normal following my chemical, if you are a little bit delayed I wouldn’t worry! Like I said, the fact you had a BFP is a reassuring sign and you have carried babies to term before! I think chemicals are just extremely common, these overly sensitive HCG tests are great in some respects but maybe it would save us all alot of heartache if we couldnt test early! Good luck, I’m sure you’ll be fine!! X

Hi all, just thought I would give an update on here! Unfortunately July turned out to be a second chemical for me, the BFP did appear on 12 dpo but was very short lived again, so that was 2 chemicals 2 months in a row. I just had a really strong instinct something wasn't quite right, so I followed my gut and had some private testing done. It turned out that I had a thinner than optimal uterine lining which was likely causing implantation failure, although strangely my oestrogen levels weren't alarmingly low. I was advised to try low dose aspirin therapy at first (and if this had no impact we would look at estrogen supplementation). I started low dose aspirin a few days before I ovulated in August. By some miracle I got pregnant again, and the BFP stuck around this time and developed into a beautiful dye stealer within a week or so. I'm now almost 9 weeks pregnant and just had a scan yesterday which showed a beautiful little babe and heartbeat. To be honest, I'm still incredibly anxious every day about anything going wrong, and it's proving to be a real mental struggle for me right now. But I am beyond grateful every day to be pregnant right now and I truly believe the aspirin made the difference in improving blood flow to my uterus to thicken the lining and aid implantation (and that without discovering that issue, failed implantation would have kept happening!) xx

I just had a baby 4 months ago so hormones little all over the place but I’m actually crying for you OP. We got pregnant 3 months after trying and it was a chemical pregnancy and it nearly broke me. I was a mess and it made me realise just how much I wanted our baby. 4 weeks later I got another BFP and now that baby is lying beside me and I’m so grateful for him. Huge huge huge congratulations. So lovely to read good news on here. You’re gonna be an amazing mummy x

Oh that is so sweet thank you so much @Littlepetites, now I have a tear in my eye! And huge congratulations on your sweet bundle of joy! xxx

@MrsImpatient I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your story as it's given me hope. My partner and I are currently TTC I have had back to back chemicals July and August this year and I've been so scared to try again . I have an almost 12 year old son from a previous relationship but my partner has no children and I would love nothing more than to for us to be blessed with a child together. I also worry that my age is against me as I turned 35 last month. I'm hoping so much that it will happen for us 🙏. Sending hugs to anyone else who is going through similar and wishing you all the best! ❤️ x

@CLM89 I'm so glad it’s helped you, and so sorry you’re going through it! It’s so disheartening and just gutting isn’t it. But please do persevere. The fact is that you’re getting pregnant which is amazing, you just need one to stick and I am confident that will happen for you soon! For me the adage of being more fertile after a loss certainly seemed to ring true. I’ll keep everything crossed for you xx

@MrsImpatient thank you so much! 🥰 Regarding the aspirin... is that something you took as soon as you found out you were pregnant? I'm wondering if it's something I should ask the EPAU about if we are lucky enough to conceive again. They have already advised me that because I have had two early pregnancy losses I would be able to call them for a prescription of progesterone if I experienced spotting in my next pregnancy as this can also help with thickening of the uterine lining. Thank you again and apologies for all the questions. I had such a smooth sailing pregnancy with my son (I was only 22 at the time and conceived a month after coming off the pill) and I've never tried to get pregnant again up until this year so this is all new to me 🙈. Xx
