Developing pre-eclampsia - feeling scared (35w+4)

Hi all - I'm currently 35w+4 with my first baby. I had a blood test done earlier in the week which showed a raised marker for pre-eclampsia. On Wed I had one slightly raised blood pressure reading but it came back down and stayed down after monitoring. Again today I had one slightly raised blood pressure reading but it came down again. I've also been monitoring my blood pressure at home and it's stayed within the normal range so far.

My urine has no protein as of yet. They said they're concerned I'm developing pre-eclampsia as I have a lot of concerning symptoms (swelling of legs, hands and face, pitting edema, breathlessness, headaches and generally feeling unwell) and the raised blood test result.

I have appointments pretty much every two days for the next week but I still feel really anxious, like I'm a ticking time bomb. I'm worried I won't pick up on feeling worse or ill miss something. I don't know what to expect either, can I still deliver naturally via induction? Baby is head down and in a good position. Or will it have to be a c-section? Thank you.

Hi, I had pre eclampsia with my first, I ended up in hospital from weeks 33-37 then was induced and natural straightforward birth, no pre eclampsia in following pregnancies.
I know it’s really worrying but it’s not all bad news

I had preeclampsia and delivered my daughter by c-section at 32 weeks. All was fine. Try not to worry, it’s good they’ve caught it and are keeping an eye on you. X

I had pre eclampsia in all 3 pregnancies. Second and third time I was admitted to hospital and assessed daily to decide the risk of the early delivery v PET risk. I had elcs both times for other reasons, but you could have an induction.

First time I just felt unwell, no other symptoms but something just didn’t feel right. Second and third time I had the flashing in one eye, high bp, protein etc etc. Trust your gut and get checked out if you feel off. Otherwise, your regular appts should pick it up as it develops.

I had it with my second. You will get really close monitoring now.

I was admitted at 32 weeks and given steroids to speed baby's development up. She was born at 34+2 by section.

She was totally fine. Needed feeding by tube for a few days. Started breastfeeding at day 7.

I wasn't very well though and was in hospital for 10 days after she was born.

You are already at 35 weeks which is good god baby's development.

I had preeclampsia at 34 weeks in my first pregnancy. My son was born at 34+2 and he was fine. Via c section but recovery was quite quick. You'll be closely monitored. Anything after 34 weeks won't be too tiny.

Breathe. It's great they've detected the possibility before it appears. They're keeping a really close eye on you, and they'll leap into action should anything develop.

I imagine the aim will be to get you to 37 weeks and induce. Should things be bad enough to warrant delivery before then, the obstetricians will balance the health of you and baby against how likely either of you will tolerate induction. Then suggest mode of delivery from there.

I developed pre-eclampsia around 34 weeks both times with mine, but owing to not being able to attend a midwife appointment (with my first) and an admin cock-up (with the second) nothing was done about it until 36 weeks. I had the high BP, protein, and bloods. A bit of swelling, but no other symptoms. I was admitted to hospital, and remained there until I delivered baby + 2 nights additional monitoring post partum. It was honestly fine. I delivered my first vaginally with no assistance. Second was a C-section, but not down to the induction or the pre-eclampsia. Baby was just in an unfortunate undeliverable position.

I developed pre ecplampsia with twins. They induced at 35+6 after I had steroids. It was all fairly straightforward, the girls had iv antibiotics for a few days but bf straight away.NICU we’re on standby but they sent them away as weren’t needed. To be fair they consider 36 weeks term with mcda twins.

I had severe pe with my DTs and delivered them at 36+5. My only ‘symptom’ was ridiculous water retention which I’d had for over a week but thought it was just part of pregnancy - I called triage just for curiosity’s sake because I couldn’t see the midwife and they called me in a few days before I had them.

They were trying to get me past 37 weeks but my body wasn’t playing ball. I could’ve been induced if I’d wanted it, but changed my mind last minute and went for an elcs.

We were in for 2 days afterwards to monitor the babies blood sugars, but they were good weights for singletons never mind twins so there was no worries there.

I had it with my second pregnancy but not my first (which is quite unusual apparently). Had protein in urine, sickness, high bp, ridiculous water retention, headaches. They induced at 34 weeks because I’d started to become really poorly. Delivery was fine, dd was in nicu afterwards but for unconnected reason, she’s a healthy happy 8 year old now.
My bp remained high for a week after birth and they wouldn’t discharge me until it had started to come down.
I felt very well observed and monitored.

At the moment it is a waiting game. They will monitor you and baby and determine what is best. You may be put on bedrest and given medication to reduce BP or they make induce you if they think it is needed.

I had it with both pregnancies. With DS1 I went into hospital with high BP. I was a week overdue so they just induced me. (I did end up with Csection for other reasons in the end).

With DS2 my BP was borderline throughout the pregnancy. I went into hospital at 37 weeks with Bells Palsy and BP through the roof. They kept me in for a week and gave me medication to reduce BP. Then I had him by Csection at 38 weeks (I couldn't be induced after previous Csection).

Thank you so much everyone for sharing your experiences and giving reassurance. I really appreciate it, im feeling a little less scared.

I've continued with the appointments every other day and my blood pressure is high, severe swelling of hands, face, feet and ankles as well as breathlessness, headaches and feeling sick / unwell. Still no protein in urine so they just keep asking me to come in every few days to monitor. I am a little worried as most people seem to get admitted into hospital for monitoring. But hopefully all will be okay.
