When do midwives get in touch after moving?

Moved back to hometown and re-registered at GP a week ago, have left multiple messages for the local midwives, as they don’t seem to answer the phone, but roughly when should I expect them to get in touch or introduce themselves to me?
Am nearly 30 weeks pregnant. Is there a certain week when they would see me and baby for a routine check ?
Thanks in advance.

Have you referred yourself to the new midwives (or has your GP?). Don’t assume it will happen automatically.

I would keep phoning until you speak to someone. If you can’t get through, maybe phone the hospital switchboard and see if they have a different number.

As a last resort phone maternity triage or similar, as they should definitely answer the phone.

I **moved when I was 20 weeks pregnant - had been working away so registered as a temporary patient at a different gp/hospital. I arranged via the hospital to have 20 week scan at my home hospital all set up and notes transferred and was told to just speak to gp/midwife when I returned home. Approximately 30 minutes after I spoke to GP receptionist the midwife was on the phone wanting to check I had been recieving antenatal care and that my anomaly scan was all set up.

So I’d like to think your midwife will be in touch soon. I think there is normally an appointment at 34 weeks and then 36 weeks.

Thank you Hazelnuttella,
The GP gave me the midwives phone number, and have phoned multiple times every day this week, as not sure which day they work, but it goes to answer machine after ringing and ringing, so have left messages with my contact details, but still heard nothing from them.
I haven’t been given the hospital triage number, so I will try to Google it or ask GP again, and ask if they can help me get in touch with the local midwives.
I wasn’t sure if I was being too impatient/pushy at first, and whether to wait for their response.
Thank you for your advice :) xx

You can find antenatal numbers online for the hospital. I'd ring them and tell them about the move and how far along you are and that the community midwives aren't getting back to you.

annonymousse · 21/07/2023 14:47

Next routine appt should be 31weeks if it's your first baby, 34 weeks if you've had babies before. I would expect to hear from them before then.

Thank you Fleur405,
I’ll check with the GP about contacting the midwife if I can’t get through to them directly, and ask them to make an appointment for 34 weeks.
Thank you for the information :) xx

HowcanIHelp123 & Annonymousse,
Thank you both :)
I’ll Google the hospital numbers if the GP can’t help with contacting the midwives and try to make an appointment.
Thank you for your advice :)

I had a midwife appointment at 31 weeks then 34 weeks and was second baby. Different trusts do it slightly differently so I would try and contact if possible

Spottypineapple · 21/07/2023 16:59

I expect you'll have to self refer at the new trust and do the booking in process all over again. If you self refer and they see you are 30 weeks they should get in touch with you pretty swiftly!!

Failing that, I'd just go to the antenatal clinic in person and ask at reception!

Peony654 · 22/07/2023 07:09

Have you done self referral? I’ve moved and just did a self referral in the new area and they got in touch.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 22/07/2023 10:45

To all those saying self refer, in my area the way to self refer is GP gives you the number, you call the midwives and the midwives email you a form. If its similar in OPs area, them not calling her back will prevent her being able to refer herself.

allgoodthings84, Spottypineapple, Peony654 & FlyingHighFlyingLow,
Thank you all for your advice.
After leaving multiple messages and phoning Midwife Triage about spotting this morning, one of the local midwives has phoned me this afternoon, and arranged an appointment for me at Children’s Centre for next Tuesday.
Thank you again for your advice and information :)
xx
