Ultrasound rules? Family or couple

Wanting to settle a debate.

4 children and pregnant (3 older to ex and 1 to DH)

Looking at 4d scans, I am wanting all children to attend as its there sibling too and feel they should come.

DH keeps saying (in front of the children) that it's a couple only thing and the children have no 'right' to be there and if they go be won't.

So are ultrasounds a couple of family thing?

Having been told my baby died in utero when my DD was there, albeit she was too young to remember, I recall being distraught and the obstetrician has to distract my DD in the pushchair whilst my DH consoled me .. awful times 🥺
So for me I'd say to let them see the pictures

When I had a private scan we could pay for the DVD. I agree it should be you and your husband for all of the reasons above.

Bibijuju · 20/07/2023 20:14

As it’s a private scan you’ll be able to bring as many people as they allow 💖

IDontDrinkTea · 20/07/2023 20:18

I am a midwife. You’d be surprised how many people book a 4D scan and sadly the sonographer finds the baby’s heart has stopped beating. It is absolutely NOT a place for children

PickledScrump · 20/07/2023 20:19

I have one booked for Sunday, I’m taking the two oldest daughters (20 & 12) and my mum and obviously DH. I’ve had several nhs scans already and the anomaly one so this is just for everyone to see the baby and bond with her. As long as you have had all the nhs ones and nothing has flagged up I think it’s great to be able to take the older siblings to see the new baby.

greyhairnomore · 20/07/2023 20:20

I'd be more worried about you husband having a tantrum , saying he won't be there if the children are , and they have 'no right'.

CloudsHailRainbows · 20/07/2023 20:24

Just want to say, for my second pregnancy we had my 2 year old in the private scan with us and when the technician said - there's no heart beat! All I could think of was get him out of the room!! Proceeded to tell me (alone, cos hubby was outside with my toddler) that my baby was no longer alive. One of the hardest days of my life.

rickaaaayyyy · 20/07/2023 20:31

Even if it's a 'for fun' scan, bringing in your whole clan in a small scan room is no fun for the sonographer! Many kids running around asking questions whilst a medical imaging procedure is done?

No.

Record it on your phone. Places like window to the womb can send you a recorded version of the scan to your phone.

No one needs 5 guests with them in a small scanning room. (Including the staff member..)
4 kids sounds like a nightmare.

Weirdest thing I've ever heard . When did this become a thing . I agree with your partner .
It's a medical appointment not an outing to the cinema.

underneaththeash · 20/07/2023 20:40

Definitely just for the two of you.

And it's "their" sibling, "there" is to do with places.

Wow. I'm sure she will appreciate this.

🙄

Not just places.

@SirChenjins 😂😂 correct xx

Whataretheodds · 24/07/2023 17:13

I agree that the 4D scans I've seen look quite gruesome.

What gestation are you, OP? Do your other children know yet?
