Caesarean Numbness

I had an emergency caesarean last week as my baby was in a footed breach position. Since the operation my lower back and the top of my bum area has been numb to touch and uncomfortable to sit on.

I’ve been told this should hopefully resolve within 6 months, but after this period it would be classed as permanent nerve damage.

This has been causing my quite a lot of anxiety and I wondered if anybody else had similar in the lower back and regained sensation?

I have PND from my ECS 7 years ago, about 2 inch above my incision below my belly button on completely numb still, dont cause me any issues I'm use to it now. Feels a little strange when I run my finger over it but other than that, I forget about it x

I had numbness round the scar, quite a wide area. It lasted over two years but has gone now.

I have numbness around the scar area. Sometimes I am more aware of it than others but mostly it doesn't bother me, just feels a bit weird. I hope yours settles down soon.

Have you spoken to an anaesthetist (assuming you had spinal/epidural)? Would be a good idea to if you haven't.

I had a c section nearly six years ago and it left me with a large area of numbness across my stomach which never got any better. The doctor said my nerves had been cut and I’d have to wait and see if they grew back. But they obviously haven’t and now probably never will. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but permanent numbness is common after a c section, you just have to live with it like any other birth injury.

Numbness around the scar area is common and to be expected, but I don’t know why you’d have nerve damage to your lower back from a c section (or even from a spinal anaesthetic)

is this something you had during pregnancy or has it only occurred since the birth?

Still got numbness 22 years on from my last CS, but every op is different and every mother is different.
Hoping you get it back x

I had quite a lotof numbness but not on my back - were there complications or issues with the anaesthetic? All my numbness went by about 5 months, which was nice as I was assuming it would bepermanent when suddenly I realised it had gone.
