My baby was measuring small via the tape at 28 weeks which led to me going for a growth scan but luckily she's growing perfectly fine. During the scan it was picked up she had a severely dilated kidney which seems to be continously getting bigger and I'm due to see the consultant next week for a follow up. Today I had another growth scan and they said I've got too much amniotic fluid. I have to go back next week for another scan to measure it again and to see the diabetic team to collect a monitor for a few days. I'm so anxious it just seems to be one thing after another 😩. To top it off I'm on my third water infection and set of antibiotics and I also think I've got a chest infection too (you couldn't write it). I'm too scared to take the time off work but I really think it's necessary just for the stress alone. Has anyone else had too much amniotic fluid and a baby with a severely dilated kidney? The other kidney is slightly dilated. Currently feel like I'm running on fresh air and have another 9 weeks left of this worry.

Sorry I haven’t been through this but didn’t want to read and run.
what I would say is that time off work is definitely not uncalled for. I would take the time you need, rest and try to unwind as best you can. You don’t need additional stress. Even better if your consultant will sign you off for a little bit xx

Don’t be afraid to take time off work. Work will be there when you go back.. and they have a duty of care to employees, especially pregnant ones. You have a right to take the time. I’m sure if you have a supportive manager, they will understand. Take care x

I had polyhydramnios (not the inflated kidney element) at 32 weeks, they induced me at 40 weeks due to concerns around this but baby was absolutely fine.

I had a growth scan last week, at 31 weeks and they panicked the crap out of me. I had way too much amniotic fluid and they were concerned babies HC was off the charts! Measuring over the 99th percentile.. spent the next 5-6 days sleepless and worried myself sick- only to have a scan yesterday and everything was fine, it’s just a big baby. These growth scans aren’t as accurate as you’d think- so take everything with a pinch of salt.. and ofc it is good they are doing thorough checks for your peace of mind too. I struggled to work so I took some time off and whilst it did help, I think work kept me busy and distracted too

Hi midwife here. The consultant will be able to talk to you about your specific case but dilated renal pelvis usually means a scan for the baby after delivery and a course of trimethoprim antibiotics. Lots of people have extra amniotic fluid, depends on how much extra you have. It may or may not be related to the kidney. Again I would ask the consultant after your next scan as they will be able to talk to you about your exact case and they know your history. I know it's easy to say but try not to worry, make a list of questions for the doctor so you don't forget any of them in the heat of the moment x
