Nausea making me miserable

Hi, I’m currently 6+4 weeks pregnant with my third child. I’m suffering with really bad nausea and it’s making me miserable. I know I’m extremely lucky to be pregnant and I know there is a lot of women out there that have worse symptoms than myself but does anyone know if the doctor can prescribe anything for nausea?
I’ve tried eating little and often, crackers, ginger biscuits etc but nothing is helping. I didn’t have this with my previous pregnancies!
Any advice would be welcome

Yes, the doctor can prescribe medication for you. I would try eating lemony things and sour things.

I had nausea, vomiting and food aversion until 20 weeks. I found sour foods really helped me. Lemon, sour sweets, oranges.

Don't suffer.

Doctor prescribed m ecyclizine for this exact reason but only thing I will say is most of the anti sickness meds I was offered have drowsy side effects. ( just a Heads up). It definitely saved me though lol. At 17 weeks now and no longer need it 🥰hope you're feeling better soon.

Prescribed me cyclizine **

WhatHaveIDoneNo3 · 18/07/2023 21:55

I’m also 6+4 and pregnant with my third! Congrats OP

My nausea is ramping up by the day so I’ll be watching this thread. I was so so ill with my first throwing up 4-8 times a day 😬 however my second wasn’t as bad (1-2 times a day). I was hoping this pregnancy would be better again but I highly doubt it!🙈

How rough were you with your previous pregnancies?

WhatHaveIDoneNo3 · 18/07/2023 21:56

Sorry I just read your note at the end of your post about your previous pregnancies so ignore my question!

snoopy18 · 19/07/2023 08:48

I’ve been given Cyclizine and although helping with nausea, the side effects haven’t been great for me.I’ve been taking one a day then yesterday was 2 more than 8 hours apart though & I’ve been feeling very ‘out of it’.Hoping to get through today without having to take one just so I feel a bit normal.

Whataretheodds · 19/07/2023 09:00

I was suffering similarly and prescribed cyclizine. Not sure how much difference it's made. I take it in the evening as I was waking in the night feeling nauseous.

Plain food, little and often, stay hydrated, don't get constipated (I take psyllium husk).

Biggest difference for me is regular fresh air and enough sleep. I get that's difficult if you have 2 kids already.

Oh - also I found microwave rice pouches are a godsend. I have them in the morning.

LeopardLover · 19/07/2023 09:15

I could've written this post! I just called the GP but they referred me to the pharmacist. So I'm waiting to hear back - I'm hoping it's short lived, not sure how I can work and raise a toddler feeling like this. I also have diarrhea 🤢

Mumma202 · 19/07/2023 09:28

Thanks everyone. I have a call with the doctor this morning so will see what they say.
Regarding bowel movements I either have diarrhoea or I’m constipated! Literally no in between!
This pregnancy was quite a shock as my children are 13 + 9 so it’s been a long time since I was last pregnant! I can’t fully remember both pregnancies with my two but I definitely know I was never this rough.

When did you all start feeling better?

New to this website so I don’t know how to respond to you all individually, apologies!

They absolutely can, phone immediately. Sometimes they will try to fob you off with 'eat a small cracker' but if you know yourself and none of these little things will make you feel better then push for the medication.
They will make you more tired for the first few days but they do help.

LeopardLover · 19/07/2023 12:43

@Mumma202 What happened? My pharmacist suggested I just deal with it in the first trimester unless it gets awful then perhaps try Cyclizine but due to a lack of studies in the first trimester blah blah he doesn't recommend it. I'm giving myself another week!

I have to say this is an odd stance from your pharmacist! There have been studies on cyclizine and other antihistamines in pregnancy and no side effects to the baby were found. It is considered a safe and tested drug by the nhs for treating sickness in pregnancy, including the 1st trimester.

After some Googling, I found the same! How strange 🤔 if I'm still suffering by the weekend I'll go back again!

NorthernExpat · 19/07/2023 13:37

I had cyclizine (and later a range of second and third line drugs after it stopped being enough) and found the trick to managing the drowsiness was to take it really consistently every 8 hours. If I was late with a dose then I would get overwhelmingly sleepy, but if I could keep the level constant I didn’t really notice it. Hope that might help someone else, meds were a total godsend for me and my now very healthy ten month old!

Mumma202 · 19/07/2023 19:26

@LeopardLover the duty doctor called me, asked a few questions then asked me to go in to give him a wee sample & for my BP to be taken. Wee & BP all good. He’s prescribed me domperidone! I’ve had a little look on NHS website and it looks like this is prescribed if other sickness medicines haven’t worked. I’m a bit confused why he’s given me that when I’ve not tried anything else?
I would definitely recommend trying to speak to your doctor to see if they can prescribe you anything. How are you feeling now?

Is anyone else burping constantly? I feel like all I’ve done since I’ve found out I’m pregnant is moan but I’m struggling with it all.

@Mumma202 Oh that's interesting! Perhaps he feels that's the most suitable option because of the Cyclizine side effects? 🤔 I haven't been feeling great today (helps I took a sick day), but some sea bands have just arrived so I've whacked them on. I hope they make a difference 🙏🏻

I cried last night because I felt so sad. You aren't alone! No burping over here. An anti-acid might help? 🤔

Mumma202 · 19/07/2023 19:53

@LeopardLover I’m not sure, he did say the main side effect is drowsiness. You’ll have to let me know how you get on with the sea bands!
Sorry to hear that 😔A good cry does help but I do hope you start feeling better soon. Here’s hoping we feel better when we hit 12 weeks 🤞
Doctor said to keep using gaviscon but it’s so gross, I find it hard to swallow 🤢

LeopardLover · 19/07/2023 20:06

@Mumma202 hopefully the meds work out for you 🙏🏻 Ah, I don't know about Gaviscon but I lived on Rennies last time! I just read they can help with nausea and gurgly tummy so I might go back to them. I'll report back on sea bands too!
