Threadworms in pregnancy help! Is vermox safe?

Hi All

One of my children had threadworms about 7 weeks ago I treated the rest of the household apart from myself as I’m pregnant but then discovered I had them too. I’m now 19 weeks pregnant. I’m wondering is it safe to take vermox I’ve seen conflicting reports online and on different threads from different people who said their pharmacist said not to take and their dr said to wait until after pregnancy to treat. My consultant said I’d the “option” to take but when I asked but is it safe they repeated you have the option. I didn’t find this particularly helpful.
Im up the walls about it. Has anyone taken it? Any advice greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't take it personally. It would more than likely be fine but threadworm are pretty much benign and and won't harm you or your baby. They're actually quite good for your immune system...

That said, I get that they're unpleasant, but they're actually pretty easy to treat without drugs. You just have to wear tight-fitting underwear at all times (including at night), change your underwear regularly and wash your hands after doing so, refrain from touching either your bottom or your mouth/face, and wash your hands frequently, but especially after going to the toilet or handling dirty, and before eating.

I've successfully rid myself of worms this way.

The poster above has actually given terrible advice. Just wear pants and wash your hands and they are actually good for you?! Wtf.

I had worms when pregnant. I took ovex and it's considered safe during pregnancy.

I personally asked doctors that I know and said "would you take it" and they all said yes.

There just isn't a huge amount of people who are willing to be research Guinea pigs whilst pregnant - hence the lack of info. But Ovex is considered safe during pregnancy.

I did my PhD nematodes - I'm not talking out my arse! Unlike the worms...

Like I said, the drugs are probably fine. Nevertheless, the worms are harmless, can have positive health effects, and, yes, can be cured through hygiene measures. If you're interested, the worms themselves are shortlived, and the infection persists because eggs coming out of your bottom end up back in your mouth (or eggs from someone else's bottom end up there, but anyway...). So if you break the cycle by containing the eggs in underwear, not touching your bottom and washing your hands then, once the existing worms due, you'll be clear.

We, once the existing worms DIE, that should say!
