Polyhydramnios

Hi,

Guess I’m just looking for some reassurance. I’ve been diagnosed with Polyhydramnios today at bang on 28 weeks and I’ve scared myself by looking on Google. Anyone got this/had it previously?

My notes say largest pool is 10.9cm so unsure how severe that is.

Thank you x

@LWestYorks hi OP, I was in the exact same position as you but last year. Gestational Diabetes can be a factor of it, have you got GD? As I also had that too. Also scared myself to death googling but my pregnancy was consultant led due to been classed as 'high risk' so had a great team who wanted to make sure that everything was appropriately put in place for me to make sure baby was born safe (as I'm sure you have seen can be at risk of cord prolapse if you were to go in labour at home) but they will advise you on what to do - get down on all 4's with your bum in air whilst waiting for the ambulance 🤣 I didn't want to chance that risk tbh so I ended up getting induced(first ever induction for me) went in at 37+1 & baby was born eventually 4 days later at 37+5! It was obvious my body wasn't ready to be put into labour but atleast my son was born safely.. any more questions feel free to ask but hopefully it has helped 😊 easier said than done but try not to worry too much as they will keep an eye on you from now & keep checking the fluid levels(which btw can also be the baby's pee!) and probably offer you an induction as it is safer to be in labour whilst in hospital just incase if anything was to happen you are already there. X

@MummyTo4BoysXXXX thank you for your reply, yes I’ve had the diabetes test at 26 weeks which were negative. I’m also specialist led anyway due to another issue (which isn’t connected) so I’m getting regular scans every 2 weeks due to the fluid level. I just feel so stressed 😫 x

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 17/07/2023 21:17

@LWestYorks yes I had scans every two weeks also. What have they said to you so far then? Have you even spoke to a consultant regarding situation you are in? If so have they mentioned about been induced?

Readingisgoodforyou · 17/07/2023 21:24

I was told I had this after being scanned at around 28 weeks. After being re-scanned a couple of weeks later, all was normal. Turns out it was possibly the position the baby was lying in at 28 weeks which created a larger than normal pool of water.
Now I'm sat holding my perfectly healthy 4 week old in my arms!

LWestYorks · 18/07/2023 11:13

@MummyTo4BoysXXXX they haven’t said much about induction etc just that they’ll scan me in another to weeks to check the level again, and just said sometimes babies come early when mums have this 🤷🏻‍♀️ x

@Readingisgoodforyou Aw I love this bet you are so happy! I’ll see what they say when I’m re scanned in 2 weeks x

Hi! I’m 31 + 3 pregnant and I was told last week my amniotic fluid was 9.6 (should be between 2-8) but also babies head is measuring large (320.8mm) above 99th percentile. I’m absolutely panicked and scared from google searches. Anyone able to share any similar experience?

LWestYorks · 18/07/2023 20:21

@NikkiKaur Hey! My baby’s head is measuring slightly big too at 28 weeks! When did you last have it measured?

OP posts:
NikkiKaur · 18/07/2023 21:25

I was last measured Friday just gone, and I was at the time 30 weeks + 6 days. Babies HC is 320.8mm and showing over 99th percentile. I’m seeing fetal medicine tomorrow- super anxious!!

Hiya, following on from your response, did they have to do an Ecv to get baby's head engaged before induction? Or did your baby naturally turn head down?

Gruffalocrumble1 · 17/08/2023 22:38

Hi,

I had this in both my pregnancies and everything was absolutely fine! The fluid changes in volume from day to day and it can be hugely effected by the position the baby is in. Both times for me by the time I was about 35 weeks the fluid levels had returned to normal and babies came naturally with no problems! Both perfect boys.

Step away from google, it’s overwhelmingly most likely fine :)

Hi @LWestYorks - how are you getting on, did you have any further updates? I've just been told the same today at 28+4. Also googling and worrying. c

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 17/09/2023 10:48

@Mommsie sorry for late reply and no they didn't have to do an ecv as he was naturally head down they checked me by giving me an ultrasound scan before I went into artificial labour x

Hi All. I know this is an old post but hoping someone can help. I am 29+2. Have GD and my amniotic fluid has been high for the last 6 weeks. I have scans every 2 weeks and yesterday it went up from 26cm to 36cm (in 2 weeks!!). My GD was diet controlled but it’s still not been good readings so now on Metaformin. My question is did anyones fluid level ever decrease or just not get any bigger? And was baby ok no genetic issues? I had a NIPT that was low risk but now I’m panicking, they don’t really tell you much and I’ve googled and wish I didn’t. Thanks all and glad all went ok with your pregnancies x

Hey! Mine kept rising but I’m not so sure what it got to just before I gave birth! My boy is 7 months old tomorrow and is absolutely fine no issues but just a big baby 😅 I was like you and googled everything but I’m sure baby will be okay. X

@AimeeLou84 mine reduced. I couldn't get GD under control with diet sadly, (my fasting readings were the issue) once I started insulin everything improved for me. Bub now 6mths, all healthy no high sugars after birth. Keep going, I had a lot of support from a GD specialist midwife, the consultants at the hospital were pretty hopeless joining up the dots. x

My fasting bloods are the issue too! Before they try insulin they are trying me on metaformin and for the first morning in a while my fasting bloods have been good today. The consultant is the one that pushed me to go on them, the diabetes team kept telling me to try and control via diet but it’s so hard!! It’s all trial and error and I don’t have time for that. Hoping this metaformin is starting to work as my belly is huge and it’s so hard to do things now. Also I don’t want it to effect my bubba. Thanks so much for replying, it gives me hope that mine may reduce in time and I’m glad all was ok x

@AimeeLou84 I know this is an only post but how did it work out for you?

I’ve had poly since 24 weeks and has been around 11-12cm since detection. I have GD which is now well managed with insulin and metformin but today they told me the fluid is now 13cm and baby is 95th centile. I’m so so worried something is wrong with him. Screening came back ok and low risk but i never had an NIPT test.
booked in for C-section next week at 37 weeks because he’s breech
