As above really, just went to the toilet then when I wiped it was pink tinged on the toilet paper. Is this normal?

I never had this with my first and now I'm worried. Haven't even had my first midwife appointment yet

Have you had any cramping with it? If I were you I would make an appointment with your GP who will hopefully refer you to an EPU. Or call the EPU direct if you can? Just to check and be sure!

Unfortunately, its how my miscarriage started and I was just under 8 weeks. But I've also come across many reasons for bleeding on here and it can be quite common and doesn't mean anything is wrong.

Best thing is to go and get checked out.

I have just had this at 9+4. I'm thinking I'll book a private scan to see in a day or two.

I previously had it with my son a couple of times between 6-8 weeks, and it was a hematoma which was visible on a scan. It wasn't anything to worry about, I just had to go on pelvic rest (jo sex, lifting heavy things, workouts etc).

@Strawberry06 if you don't mind me asking how did it progress? Did it turn into bleeding, or did you have a missed miscarriage? I had brown bleeding in my first pregnancy and didn't miscarry u til 2-3 weeks later

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I had one massive cramp in the morning which I distinctly remember cause it was so bad. Then in the evening I had very light pink discharge which was also light pink when I wiped. The next day it had turned brown so I phoned the doctors first thing but referral to EPU scan wasn't until a few days so doctor advised me to go to A&E (i'd had shoulder pain). I had bloods taken and eptopic was ruled out but the gyno examined me and said she could see my cervix was open - it was the start of an inevitable miscarriage. By this point the blood was bright red. The gyno basically told me to go home and bleed! I had my scan at EPU a few days later and just a sack visible.

It all happened pretty quick tbh.

@Strawberry06 I'm so sorry. It's so tough when it's so different from one miscarriage to another. And then you can get the exact same things in a pregnancy that makes it to term.

CoalCraft · 14/07/2023 13:03

It isn't "normal", per se, and you should contact your early pregnancy unit, but it's very common and it doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong. I had spotting/light bleeding throughout the first trimester of both my pregnancies and sporadic bleeding after that in my first, and I have two healthy DC. Scans couldn't find any source of the blood in my uterus so it was assumed to be coming from my cervix.

Hard to say! My miscarriage started with pink spotting. But I also had spotting with all of my kids! Fingers crossed for a good outcome

kcpatsy · 14/07/2023 14:34

Thanks everyone. I've not had any cramps with it or anything, just the slight pink tinge earlier. I've just been to the toilet again and there was the tiniest bit of brown discharge as well. I know spotting can happen in early pregnancy, I don't know if should just wait and see if anything else happens before ringing EPU? I don't want to feel like I am wasting anyone's time? Sad

You're not wasting their time. They will let you know what to look out for.

Lottie917 · 14/07/2023 14:48

Definitely try to contact your local midwife team / triage or EPU (however the system works where you live). Bleeding is always advised to be checked out, even in early pregnancy, you definitely won't be wasting anyone's time.

I've had spotting in all of my pregnancies, unfortunately in two of them this is how my miscarriages started. With my son it stopped after 48 hours and no cause was ever found, my pregnancy carried on as normal.

I have everything crossed that's it's good news for you OP 🤞 x

@Lottie917 So sorry for your losses. Did the bleeding eventually get worse for you when you miscarried? Hope you don't mind me asking x

@kcpatsy no worries at all! So my two experiences were very different.

With my first I got pink spotting that was fairly consistent at 5 weeks. I didn't do anything about it as I thought it was normal. Saw MW for 1st appt two weeks later and I was still having pink/brown spotting on and off. She told me to go to the EPU, a scan confirmed baby and sac in the right place and a heartbeat, I was told that sometimes it can just be one of those things. About a week after the scan I started getting pretty intense cramps and bleeding like a bad period (it had gradually built up from pink to brown to lots of brown to red eventually). A second scan at the epu confirmed no heartbeat anymore and it actually happened that afternoon after my 2nd scan.

Second time, I got pink spotting at 11 weeks. It was literally one bit of pink when I wiped and no more. Completely freaked me out due to previous loss. Unfortunately a scan at the epu that day confirmed baby had stopped growing at roughly 9 weeks, so a missed miscarriage. I had no more spotting after that one time for days. I decided to go down the route of expectant management and I actually had the miscarriage a couple of days later where there was no build up, it was red and a lot of it straight away, it all happened quite quickly over a few hours.

However, it can be completely fine and turn out to be nothing, as I experienced with my 3rd, who's now 2.5 and currently tearing my living room apart. I'd really recommend going to the epu so they're aware and can give you the best advice x

I had pink tinge discharge/slightly green/yellow. No offensive smell. I had a urine test and vaginal swab at my GP and tested positive for thrush, nothing else. The abnormal discharge has now gone after using the Canestan pessary and cream. I would recommend seeing your GP or going to a sexual health clinic.

I am now 12+1 and am awaiting my ultrasound tomorrow as my symptoms are mild.

Hello everyone!

8 weeks pregnant and having some trouble with what I assume is thrush. I got STD tested just before I fell pregnant and no issues came back from testing.

Had a terrible chest infection a few weeks ago and DR prescribed Amoxicillin which has given me horrible thrush (sore down there, skin splitting, little bit itchy, yellow discharge). I felt like it wasn’t clearing with cream alone and DR prescribed 3 days of pessaries.

After day 1 I felt really dry and sore inside my vagina and had tiny amounts of blood on toilet paper. Didn’t think much of it and used day 2 pessary. After day 2, I feel horrible down there. Dry, itchy inside vagina, skin splitting, vulva feels leathery and shiny and also pink stringy discharge.

I had a miscarriage in January and any signs of blood worry me. I’m remaining as calm as possible as I can’t control this.

I decided not to take day 3 until I can speak to a midwife/GP on Monday. I know no one can diagnose but if anyone has had similar symptoms and can put my mind at ease it would be greatly appreciated!

PS. The white lumps in the discharge are just parts of the pessary.
