Expecting first baby, anxiety over test!

Hi all,

my wife is expecting our first baby and is approximately 9 weeks and 5 days along in her journey, she assured me everything is fine but as I suffer with severe anxiety I’m panicking over the smallest of issues.

she has done another pregnancy test (about the 20th) which although shows positive only has what I’d call a faint line compared to the C line. She does have all the symptoms of being pregnant, regular nausea and vomiting, tender breast etc but just this test is kinda concerning me .. a lot 😫

Any help or advice from the ladies of this forum would be greatly appreciated!

Has she had her first midwife check yet? They will be able to answer any questions you're worrying about

BudgetBuster · 12/07/2023 16:37

That's not a faint line. Also you probably shouldn't be using pregnancy tests at 9 weeks. Step away from the tests and stop worrying you both. She will have a scan very soon!

Yes, she had the very first one where she meets for first time but hasn’t completed her “pack” ?? Until tomorrow with her.

do you personally think the line is faint or am I just being a fool and worrying over nothing …

Don't worry about the line if you've had 20+ positive tests. A positive is a positive. Strength of line can vary with time of day and how much water she's been drinking!

Urine pregnancy tests aren't helpful at tracking progression beyond the first week or two. Please don't pass your anxieties onto your wife - I'd find dealing with my husband's worries on top of mine really difficult.

You are worrying over nothing.

Lines can actually get fainter after a certain point as they aren't designed to test such a high level of HCG.

Basically if there's no bleeding, no need to worry.

And sometimes even when there is bleeding, it's still fine.

Symptoms come and go, also nothing to be worried about.

As others have said - stop testing. Unless she has bleeding or cramps, best to assume all fine. And perhaps consider some support for your own anxiety as passing this on to your wife won’t help

she Shouldn’t be testing this late on, as you won’t get accurate results. Pregnancy tests aren’t designed to judge whether the pregnancy is progressing. You will end up passing anxiety onto your wife which isn’t what she needs right now. You can always speak to your GP if you are finding your anxiety is getting out of control.

Put the tests down. Pay for a private scan if you think it will help. But try to get your anxiety under control, there is help out there

Wolfiefan · 12/07/2023 19:58

Are you having treatment for your anxiety? A newborn and young children can really ramp up the anxiety. You need to find coping mechanism before then.
