Hello,

I'm 8 weeks pregnant following IVF. First pregnancy.

Feeling dreadful, really emotional, struggling eat anything due to my nausea being so severe. I have zero motivation or energy to do anything.

I have recently stopped my cyclogest and also been struggling with anxiety.

Anyone else??? Is this normal?? X

Can you see your GP or fertility clinic doctor for some meds for the sickness? I am always incredibly sick during pregnancy but finally tried some meds my last pregnancy and they were life changing.

Whataretheodds · 11/07/2023 20:24

If you're struggling to eat and drink you do need to contact GP or midwife.

Why did you stop your cyclogest?

I am managing to drink not a great deal but my clinic says enough.
My cyclogest was advised to stop by the clinic as they recommended at 8 weeks I stopped it Friday after my scan x

Feeling emotional and anxious certainly is within the range of normal.

How do your clinic think you're getting essential nourishment?

FlapJackered · 11/07/2023 22:25

I am 8 weeks after ivf too and feeling terrible too. It's so hard to function, I have a 2.5yr old too and I feel so guilty as all I want to do is be in bed. 😩
I feel like I am force feeding myself each mouthful. I didn't feel bad at all with my son's pregnancy which is weird!

As horrible as this sounds it's reassuring and must be normal. Was your son IvF too?? Everyone is telling the first trimester is hard but even harder following all the ivf meds etc! I don't know how you're coping with a toddler!! You are much stronger than me x

They advised beige foods but I'm not even having three meals a day at minute, they have advised vitamins and eat where I can! :( it's hard though because the nausea is overwhelming I'm trying dry crackers atm! X

Hmm, yes I'd definitely let your midwife/GP know.

I am 18 weeks with an IVF pregnancy and my first trimester was awful. I was the opposite of you, I had to eat constantly or the nausea overcame me and I couldn’t function. I was also bloated and extremely hormonal from all the medication and the steroids my clinic had put me on, it was rough. To cap that all off I had severe anxiety about the pregnancy (pretty standard with IVF) and had to take week’s sick leave because I was paralysed with fear.

I had to change the way I eat entirely. I stopped eating set meals and had to graze constantly. I couldn’t get too hungry or too full otherwise the nausea would hit.

You will get through this! I got a lot better at 10 weeks and every week has been better and better for me. You’ve got this xx

Eh98 · 12/07/2023 04:53

I was exactly the same as you when I had IVF. I couldn't stomach any food and had a fluid aversion for the first trimester. I lived off of ice lollies, sipping lucozade orange and nibbling on crosta & mollica breadsticks. I lost a lot of weight around that time, which made me feel lethargic.

Those are things I did, it does get better. You just have to power through it. I wish you all the best! Rest and nibble on what you can xxx

FlapJackered · 12/07/2023 06:47

@SarahL05 yes son's pregnancy was ivf too so I was on all the same meds but apart from feeling tired and occasional mild nausea I didn't have any morning sickness. I didn't realise how lucky I was! 😂
I have had two miscarriages so part of me is feeling grateful for having the symptoms but also hoping things will calm down in the next few weeks...although then I will probably panic things are going wrong!

Have you got any more scans booked? I have booked another private one for 10 weeks.

SPR40 · 12/07/2023 08:37

Hiya, if you are concerned please see your GP but to share my first trimester (IVF) was similar. I was fortunate to not be throwing up and was very grateful, but had constant nausea, was exhausted, had a million food aversion, couldn't handle meat to cook, didn't like the smell of cooked meat and survived on beige foods toast, pasta, potato waffles lol, fish fingers, chicken nuggets and trusty cereal. I was patiently waiting for the 2nd trimester and I started to feel better by week 12.

The anxiety, understandable with IVF and the journey it takes to get here, all the meds that have been taken and are in the system heighten those hormones.

Sending you lots of love and CONGRATULATIONS on your pregnancy 🎊🥳💗

Thank you so much! This is really reassuring!! I am definitely going to tell the GP because the nausea is so bad I can't eat much at all! Thank you again xxx

Maybe this one's a little girl then? 🩷
No I'm waiting for the midwife to get in touch to update me when my scan will be but I think booking a private one is sensible to ease my anxieties a little! Thanks so much for sharing fingers crossed it just gets better 🙏🏼 xx

This is genuinely me up until about 10 weeks ago! IVF with egg donation here. I could only eat crackers (dry), ready salted crisps, dry bread/toast, and the occasional plain digestive for some sweetness. I was never sick but had nausea pretty much anytime I was awake, I couldnt stand the smell of any food, couldnt think about 'normal' food, couldn't cook or wash up.

I was miserable (but also happy because awful symptoms must mean everything is ok, right lol) context being I had an IVF miscarriage (own egg) last year and had maybe one nauseous day the whole time (mc just before 9 weeks)

One day you'll wake up and think...maybe I could eat an apple today. Or a potato. Or the thing that made me cry...baked beans 🤣. I started to feel myself again about 14 weeks. I still cant get too full, too hungry or too tired, or I do get that raging nausea back but thats once in a blue moon now 💕 x

beckyCarlos · 12/07/2023 10:06

Oh, yes, to the poster who said about fluid aversion too, I had this! I guzzle water like its going out of fashion, and I could barely have a big gulp without feeling sick! Take tiny sips regularly and its much more manageable, try and time it with whatever food youre managing too.

Minty chewing gum was my saviour at times too, I hated (and still kinda do) the taste of anything lingering in my mouth 🤣 so it takes that away, and it did curb my nausea a bit/buy me half an hour if I wasnt near a snack x

TolkiensFallow · 12/07/2023 10:09

I think weeks 8/9 are the worst so hopefully you are peaking and will start to feel better. I was like this with my daughter but not my son. I think every pregnancy is different. As long as you can force something in you will be ok, also worth taking a pregnancy vitamin at this time.

Yes!! This is me with the drinking too 😩
Thank you for sharing it has honestly taken away my anxiety by half listening to everyone's stories.
Todays been a bad day, just can't wait to start leaving the house haha!

Thank you 😊

I'm praying this is the peak and it does start to settle!! I do wonder if it's a girl as people say the nausea is worse!
Thank you for sharing, I've managed crackers today 🤣 x
