So I had a 10 week internal scan yesterday all was perfectly fine and was told the pregnancy was all healthy and normal. I came home and three hours later had a gush of blood? I was told to monitor overnight. The bleeding has reduced I have tried to get in touch with the hospital for the midwives and they couldn’t do anything they said they need to refer me back to EPU. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I’m just so confused and concerned.

I had bleeding at 9 weeks, I was convinced I’d lost it. Epu scanned me and baby was completely fine. Maybe the internal knocked something as there’s an increased blood flow when pregnant. Surprised they did an internal at 10 week’s really. Usually can see with an external at 7/8 weeks

Is there any particular reason you had an internal as opposed to external scan? My guess is the wand may have caused a small bleed which is most likely nothing to be concerned about. Easier said than done I know. Are you still bleeding?

I know I was annoyed when they told me it was internal, I was concerned it would cause something as I have had IVF and one previous miscarriage already. How long did your bleeding last? Did you also have a lot of blood loss initially? I have just had one gush and then bits here and and there when I go for a wee?

I was warned after I had an internal scan at 13 weeks that it could cause bleeding afterwards. I had it internally as they wanted to check my cervix length at the same time so easier to do internal.

No no reason as to why I had an internal they just said it would be too small to see through the belly? I am still bleeding but like just a bit more than spotting, nothing like yesterday so seems to have eased slightly.

@Yo94 if you have a retroverted uterus (tilted backwards) they do internal quite often up until the 12 week dating scan because it's hard to see through abdominal, although they do usually try for abdominal first.

It could be absolutely fine but the only way to know is to have another scan, and usually they try to leave a week between them. If you didn't have any clots, or cramping or other signs of miscarriage alongside the bleeding it could just be a bleed which does happen (stupidly stressful for you though!). Hope it's all ok x

Thank you! This is really helpful and the positive I need 😊yeah I think they will get me in within a week. Like I said I feel fine and no other symptoms and scan was perfectly normal I’m hoping it’s just the a pool of blood which you can get which I have been reading online x

I had a worry about if they tried an internal scan at the early scan I booked (for when I'm 8+2 weeks) but when I have looked at the NHS website it states there's no risk of this type of scan.

This website may put your mind at ease, it does mention about possibility of releasing blood, but mentions the scan isn't risky - https://www.uhsussex.nhs.uk/resources/transvaginal-ultrasound-examination/

Transvaginal ultrasound examination - University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust

This is an internal scan where a probe is passed through the vagina looking at the womb/pelvic organs.
