Exercises during early pregnancy

I am 5+4 weeks pregnant, and just wondering what is good to do exercise-wise. This is my first pregnancy so I am not sure if this is just me being overly cautious about things too early on.

Since finding out, I've been swimming a couple of times and walking the dog, bur have been too nervous to do anything else. I miss my yoga (vinyasa so can be various movements with that) but when I have tried to look up whether normal yoga is okay to do I seem to be getting conflicting information, so I have been too nervous to do my normal Monday and Saturday classes.

What exercises did others do in early pregnancy?

You can absolutely keep doing whatever you were doing regularly before you were pregnant (as long as any sickness, exhaustion allows!) In fact it's better to stay active in pregnancy.

As your bump starts to pop you just need to be careful not to put extra pressure through your core and make sure you are conscious of your pelvic floor too.

I did CrossFit throughout and up until my due date. Just listened to my body and scaled appropriately as the pregnancy progressed.

Thanks for your reply it really helps. Some bits I read were saying to not put pressure on tummy by folding forward etc, which obviously I get once there is a bump, but started getting worried that it means right from the start. Think it's just my nerves getting in the way.

I’m also swimming and doing fast walks (was running before but tried it and made me feel so sick!). I’ve also done some prenatal workouts on the Body Coach app (joe wicks) he has some on YouTube as well. I’m going to go to pregnancy yoga as well, just waiting to move house to start the class

Just let your yoga teacher know you're pregnant and they will advise if there is any part of class you can't do.

Its absolutely safe to exercise 👌
With my 1st pregnancy I did an Olympic Triathlon at 9weeks and 100mile bike ride when around 13 weeks. I did have to stop running at 20 weeks due to pelvic pain. and unfortunately due to lockdown the pool was closed, so relied on indoor bike and long walks by 2nd half of pregnancy.
I also followed a weigh triaining program made for pregnancy. Only thing you need to be aware of is your core 'coning' from diatsi recti- which will happen. Tell your yoga instructor and they will assist with with any required adaptations to moves

No worries - it's more internal pressure that you need to worry about, which would be from things such as plank, sit ups, crunches. It's also for your own benefit by the way and won't harm baby at all, if that puts your mind at ease. Google or YouTube about coning and doming which should help show you what to look out for. Can't see any risk from folding forward, other than it will become uncomfortable at some point and you physically won't be able to anyway!
