Weight gain in pregnancy

Hi everyone
I’m just looking for a little bit of advice/ to hear other people’s experiences.

I am 35 + 2 and had a growth scan last week. Baby is measuring large ( 97 centile) 6.3lbs and I am aware that growth scans have a 10-15 percent margin for error. I asked the midwife if there is any reason why baby may be on the larger side and she advised me no. I will have a repeat scan and also an appointment with consultant to discuss birth options in two weeks.
I’ve had a look on the NHS website and it suggests that reasons for large babies include obesity/ high BMI and gestational diabetes.
i have not been offered a test for G diabetes.

My weight Pre pregnancy was 53kg and on the lower end of normal BMI.
i seem to have gained weight quite steadily but have reached +16kg already.
I have exercised regularly throughout my pregnancy ( ran up to 28 weeks, core and strength x3 per week, walk 30 mins-1 hr daily) and my appetite is normal. I am not overeating by any means and eat around the same amount as pre pregnancy just increased my carb intake.

I have no issues with amniotic fluid and no concerns re swelling /
fluid.

anyone else with quite a low pre pregnancy weight had or is having same
experience of baby measuring large an or fair weight gain ? Should I be tested for GD?

your weight gain shouldn’t affect the baby as far as I’m aware. GD can though but you would need to get your midwife to refer you for testing if the hospital hasn’t. I’m not sure the latest they will test for it as most get tested by 30 weeks if it’s needed.

My previous baby was born on 18th centile and I gained over 3 stone (had a lower healthy BMI)

If it makes you feel any better at all and to confirm the wild inaccuracy of the growth scans I had to deliver my DS a little bit early at 37 weeks 8 days ago (I had placenta previa)

He was in the 90th centile on all his fundal height measurements and growth scans. My BMI was higher end of normal and I gained 10kg, continued exercising throughout.

His estimated weight was 6lb 9oz on his 36+3 scan so I had quite the shock when over the drapes they handed me a teeny 5lb 13oz little boy! He is tiny!

Please try not to worry or stress, you had a lower starting weight so your weight gain I think is very reasonable. For reassurance I’d mention your concerns to midwife again for testing but also just take the scans and measurements with a pinch of salt. There are forums on here with scan weight and birth weight comparisons and the differences are crazy!

I gained 3 stone in pregnancy. My baby was born at 39 weeks weighing 8lb 6oz. I lost a stone pretty much straight after birth and then the further 2 stone within 6 months. I actually shedded a further 2 stone under my pre birth weight after 6 months post partum. Think it was a combination of being so active and breast feeding.
I wouldn't worry about your weight, let your body do it's thing. As for babies weight, I wouldn't worry about that either but maybe get a GD test like you said?
Mine also measured "huge" apparently with stomach and legs off the centile. They pushed and pushed for an induction at 38 weeks which was absolutely horrendous and he wasn't born till 39 weeks as he simply wasn't ready. He wasn't too huge either and had no issues pushing him out. Good luck OP, trust your body.
