Hi all,

I am on 100mg of levothyroxine for underactive thyroid. Before I fell pregnant, my tsh level was under 1, now it is over 2.5 but doc won’t prescribe me a higher dose because he said the other part (can’t remember the name of the other reading) is quite high and giving me a higher dose to lower the tsh level will increase the other marker further so he is getting in touch with an endocrinologist from the hospital I will be giving birth in to advise what to do.

Anyone know what they can or will do in this instance?

thanks x

Sorry no advice but following as also underactive and just got a positive test - I'd keep chasing your GP for the endocrinology referral. How far over 2.5 is it? Mine was 4.8 before I got my BFP so my dose got upped to 125mg about a month ago. You started from a good place with it being under 1 so I would try not to worry - easier said than done!

Didn't want to read and run - I started off with a TSH level of 3. My GP contacted the endocrinologist and increased the dose, so I should say they are doing what they need to.
I was referred to a consultant who followed me up on certain weeks and had to chase the GP for continuous blood tests - there are certain weeks your bloods for thyroid needs to be checked. I'm pretty sure I found information on NHS online.
And DS is 15 months old and ridiculously healthy, it will be fine Smile

@Nuglife123 it was just over 2.5 so not too bad!
@surreyisik my lg is 14 months and 75mg kept my tsh throughout her pregnancy well under 2.5. This time a stronger dose isn’t. If was under 1 at about 10dpo and is already over 2.5 about 3/4 weeks later. Have you noticed your thyroid went even more out of whack after baby? Im not too worried as I know an endocrinologist will be in touch soon and they will know what to advise but just being me and being anxious lol xx

It went back to normal pretty quickly after I gave birth but I think it's normal for you to need more than your usual dose. As the pregnancy progressed they increased my dose more and more!

@surreyisik my dose didn’t increase at all during last pregnancy, i was on 75mg throughout, then after the pregnancy they put me down to 50mg but within months I needed to go up to 100mg months before I fell pregnant again. So strange

Hi is anyone able to give advice I’m in my first trimester and my blood results have come back that my tsh level is undetectable will this harm my baby? My doctor has told me to drop my dose lower of thiroxine but I’m scared it won’t be enough for my baby?
I’ve read so many bad things about fetal brain damage because of hypothyroidism
