International holiday at 30 weeks?

I am STM expecting baby #2 in mid December.
We were considering going on an all inclusive to either Cabo, Cuba or the Dominican Republic during the second week in October. I will be 30 weeks pregnant. My last pregnancy was straight forward and I went to 41+5 before having a c-section.
Aside from being uncomfortable on the plane, would you consider this?

Our other option would be going in March when the baby is 3mo but that didn't sound overly appealing lol.

I would also get trip cancellation insurance of some sort just in case.

To clarify I am British but live in Canada so the flights would be less time than flying from the UK.

I would fly at 30 weeks (if I had a fit note) but not much beyond that personally. Eg I’m just 36 weeks now and absolutely cannot be bothered. I’m so uncomfortable

Are you aware that if the baby is born your health insurance will cover you alone. Not the infant.

Do you have thousands spare to potentially have a premie and the hospital stay that will happen?

I have top notch travel insurance through my employer health benefits that covers everything related to me and newborn as long as it's before 32 weeks and as long as I have a ok from a physician x

I am 36 weeks pregnant with #3 and went on a 3 week long distance holiday between 29-32 weeks with absolutely no issue. It being my 3rd baby I was fairly certain it wouldn't randomly be born at 30 weeks and don't feel the need to stay chained to my house for the entirety of pregnancy "just in case I give birth at 30 weeks and my health insurance doesn't cover my preemie baby" (wtf)

It entirely depends on what sort of person you are and how nervous you are.

Energy wise I was actually ok, just felt the heat a lot more than i usually would. It was lovely being in the water all day though as it really took the pressure off my bump!

Aren't those countries high risk for Zika?

Pkhsvd · 09/07/2023 08:49

Personally no but I had complications in both my pregnancies so I’m biased in that way. What I do know though is that even with health insurance if you had your baby early you’d be stuck in that country until baby was ready to fly which could be weeks/months

That's only an issue in the first weeks.

I'm 26 weeks pregnant FTM and went on holiday to Greece when I was 20-22w. Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable going to the countries you mention at 30 weeks. I would perhaps consider a holiday abroad in an European country because they have very good healthcare systems so I knew I'd be in good hands if something happened. But as others say, it depends on your appetite for that particular risk which, if you've had an uncomplicated pregnancy so far, is probably not high.

I'm leaning towards Mexico because they actually have fantastic healthcare, a lot of Canadians travel to Mexico for health treatments. It's only a 4.5 hr flight from where I live vs a European destination which would be much further for me x

This is a good point to consider thank you
