Early scan - empty gestational sac

Hi!
I had some very light spotting two days ago and due to this my GP referred to EPU. The spotting was only a couple of times as I wiped that morning, nothing more and no pain.

For background, my app says, 7+3, but I didn’t ovulate until CD22, which puts me at least a week behind so we did not expect to be told 7+ anyway.

They did a scan and there was a gestational sac “measuring under 6 weeks” and told me to come back in 2 weeks. Am I wrong for thinking this is actually possible? Or did it stop growing? EPU declined to do bloods when I asked stating it “wouldn’t change the outcome” and it’s “50/50” as to whether the pregnancy is viable.

We have a follow up scan at EPU in two weeks, but we actually had already booked a private scan prior to all of this which is next weekend… So we will attend this and see if there are any changes.

any experiences here?

Hi OP,

this happened to me a few months ago and it was a blighted ovum. I started bleeding naturally just after week 8. x

So sorry to hear this 😞 I think I had a mc last night. Horrible pain and bleeding. I've been crying a lot but also think it wasn't meant to be. We like to think we are in control of our lives but so many things out of our hands. I think accepting this can being some comfort. Sending you lots of love and we will get through this ❤️❤️❤️

I really hope this resolves soon - I feel so sick and knowing the pregnancy isn’t viable is just further torture. I am absolutely gutted… 🙁 I want us to try again but I’m so exhausted by early pregnancy anxiety…

So sorry OP. Can’t imagine how awful you must feel. Hope you’re as okay as you possibly can be x

I'm so sorry you're going through this OP 😢 are you able to try and bring your next EPU scan forward based on your most recent scan results and get seen quicker? Take the time you need to recover and process. Sending lots of love and hugs x

For those who come across this thread in the future and wish to know the outcome I miscarried at what would be 9 weeks today. Thanks for all of your support through this and good luck xxx

@Ems1992 I am so sorry - thinking of you.
My last was a blighted ovum and it was awfully confusing . Be kind to yourself xx

Ems1992 · 24/07/2023 20:42

Hello
I’m updating in case anyone goes through this experience - I thought I was miscarrying in my previous post but out of a final act of cruelty I had two episodes of red blood when wiping then nothing. I had another scan and the gestational sac is still growing, I still have morning sickness and sore breasts… I have a D&C booked for Wednesday. I’ve had no more bleeding and no pain… It’s very very cruel! xxxx

Oh Ems, that's such a shame.

Sorry you are going through this.

I had similar & it turned out to be a molar pregnancy.

It was a relief to have a D&C & I could then start to move on.

Hope everything goes ok with the surgery - it was pretty painless for me & I recovered quickly.

PrincessTigger · 24/07/2023 20:46

Oh gosh that’s not fair 😔 good luck with the procedure 💐 xxx

I feel the same way, I am looking forward to closing the door on this and feeling back to normal - I think we will wait until the back end of the year to start trying again and enjoy a life of no sickness for a while!!

Glad to hear yours resolved quickly and hopefully we have better news in the future xxx
