Private NIPT test

Morning all,
we are currently 14 weeks pregnant and still awaiting results of our combined blood test… which was now over a week ago which I’m assuming is a positive we have had no news!

however, we have a direct relative who has Down’s syndrome so particularly anxious about this side of things.

do you know if there is anywhere local to the north east we can pay privately to get a nipt test done? And has anyone else done this before for extra reassurance?

also, is there a change the nhs might offer us this extra test due to the family links or not if combined comes back ok?
many thanks 😊

I don’t know where you can get the test locally to you unfortunately but just to say that only 1% of Down syndrome cases are inherited, the rest are spontaneous, so it’s extremely unlikely to run in your family and wouldn’t be grounds for the NHS to fund the test for you unfortunately.

(Whether or not they offer you the test would just be based on your combined results)

You should be able to google and find somewhere for the test. NHS will offer further testing, maybe quad or amnio if there is increase risk from initial screening. I do believe some trusts will do NIPT but definitely not all so worth checking your individual trust or just waiting for them to let you know.

This suggests Yorkshire and NE NHS does offer NIPT if initial testing shows increased risk:
