Hi all, my waters went at 4am this morning and labour has not progressed adequately so I am booked in tomorrow morning for induction with a drip. I am needle phobic at the best of times so dreading that for one and also have only heard horror stories about induction with the drip.
As my waters have gone and I’m about 3cm dilated there are no other options for induction.
This is baby 4 for me and labour has always been simple and straight forward for me before this. I’ve only ever had gas and air for pain relief as I don’t like feeling out of control.

Does anyone have any stories of reassurance with drip induction? I am so so nervous!

Thank you!!

I was induced by drip, after 3 failed pessaries, with my second baby and it was very difficult but definitely speeded things up. I battled through the whole thing on gas and air alone. I did ask for an epidural though because they are intense back to back contractions. But the anaesthetist was held up in an emergency! It was rough going but quick!

I've said it so many times on MN and IRL but I'll say it again! Some people (like me) choose induction including by drip as the way they want to start the process of giving birth. You will always find more negative stories online than positive, just like negative customer service reviews 😆

I was very happy with my induction and it included the drip. It was painful for sure, but didn't take as long as I feared and the monitoring of me and baby was brilliant.

My only advice is get the epidural before the drip. The epidural isn't so bad, you can't see it go in for starters. The second consideration is that by the time it does go in you probably won't care because it's nowhere near as bad as contractions. The hardest part is sitting exactly how they tell you to when you're in the middle of active labour lol

Hope all goes well! Xx

Thank you all so much for your responses. Baby boy arrived without drip at 1.56am following my waters being broken and a sweep. Very fast and furious arrival within 40 mins but here and safe! Much larger than scans suggested too!
He just needs a name now!
thank you again, you all really helped me feel more prepared!

Congratulations 🎉 do we ge to know his weight? I'm on tenterhooks! Well done you, what a night you had x

He weighed 8lb1oz which was surprising as growth scans had said he was on the 10th centile the whole pregnancy and to expect a 6lber! Got a lot of tiny baby clothes that won’t be fitting! He’s so wonderful and met his big brothers and sister this morning and im currently in that blissful post birth bubble 😍.
Even though it was a hard labour and birth it
was 100% worth it!
