Low lying placenta worries, anyone else?

My placenta at my 20 week scan was less than 1cm away from the cervix.

I'm worried as for this pregnancy everything feel uncomfortable, tight and heavy. Worried it won't move and I'll need a c-section.

I'm a single Mum to a nearly 3 year old so terrified of healing from a c-section with a toddler and a newborn.

Anyone else's didn't move away from the cervix? I have a "feeling" mine won't.

Any tips?

I know this isn’t what you’re asking but mine was close to cervix at 20 weeks and by 30 right out the way. If it’s not completely covering there’s every chance!

There was an excellent Birthing Instincts podcast on low lying placentas recently. Definitely worth a listen, should put your mind at ease.

If it really hasn't moved by the end of pregnancy (it probably will) then a planned and gentle C-section is much easier to recover from than some of the stories you hear.

Hiya I had low lying placenta "kissing" my cervix, all the way upto 20 week scan, the 4 weeks later it was in my report is was down as high and they completely forgot it used to be low. soooo lots of time for it to move! And if it doesn't when you are close then you will be able to make an informed decision on what is best for you and baby. xxx

Mine didn’t move, but it was completely covering/fully on top of my cervix, I was told at my 20 week scan mine likely wouldn’t move enough.

I was really scared but thankfully I didn’t have any bleeding. They did put me on “rest before bed rest” so I basically wasn’t allowed to do anything except potter about at home from like 32 weeks. They also kept trying to get me to stay in hospital for 34 weeks just in case I started bleeding but I refused as I live really close.

I had a c section and I have a 3 year old. My husband had to do all the taking to and from childcare and we did have to extend her hours slightly. But otherwise it was ok. I just missed her when I was in hospital but preoccupied with baby too. I’d already had a C-section and knew what to expect, you heal quickly but do need to take it easy to avoid infection. Even when you feel like you can walk miles on week 2, don’t! Trust me 😂

I was told at my 20 week scan that my placenta was 12mm from the cervix. I honestly wasn't worried, was told that 9/10 of then move, wasn't given any special advise and then bam - at 25 weeks I had a bleed and had to be admitted into hospital. That was this Sunday just gone. So now I'm a lot more nervous and anxious... I have a scan on the 17th to check on its position and see what's happening.

My 1st pregnancy I had a low lying placenta at 20 weeks re scanned me at 32 ans it had moved so no worries. I'm now 17 weeks and had a private gender scan a week ago sonograher told me the same and to mention it at my 20 weeks. So yes theu can move up try not to worry so much xx

Yes mine was anterior and over the cervix (no gap) at 20 weeks. By 31 weeks it had moved enough to be clear of the cervix. I still ended up with a C-section due to preeclampsia instead.

Mine was low lying at 20 weeks. Mine has moved up but not by massive amounts, Im nearly 39 weeks now and my scan showed it has moved to 3cm away. The guidelines at my trust are anything below 2cm is low and anything above 2cm is fine for a vaginal birth. However I’ve had two unexplained episodes of bleeding in the last two weeks which they cannot be sure of the cause, they have decided to induce me next week in hospital so that if I bleed during labour they can intervene, they are happy for me to go ahead with a vaginal birth but with close monitoring. I hope yours moves up as mine has given me alot of anxiety, from what I’ve read if your placenta is posterior its less likely to move out the way x

Where I work we give until 34 weeks for the placenta to move up if low lying at the 20 week scan and the majority do move up so try not to worry too much OP. If it was completely covering the cervical os then I find there’s less of a chance but yours isn’t so I’d be hopeful 🤞

Just a little update... she arrived perfectly healthy in October 2023 at exactly 37 weeks 🙌 in a mind boggling 6 minute vaginal labour xx
