Weight gain/loss

Hi everyone.

So, bit of a background with me. I had private ivf treatment and put on a good bit of weight during it. I just didn’t have any motivation for exercise, I ended up overstimulated and I gained water weight.

It was all worth it as we were successful first attempt and I’m currently 17 + 4 with a very healthy baby (so far).

Due to my weight gain and me being short my BMI is high at Just below 35 when they weighed me at 11 weeks. My midwives have been great and haven’t put any emphasis on it but I was quite shocked in myself. So I weighed myself again there tonight (at 17 + 4) and I have actually lost a kilo in weight from they weighed me last.

my question is is this ok as I have definitely been watching what I’m eating and out walking more. Also, should I have gained much weight by now or a I just wishful thinking in thinking that my exercising is working lol.

Many thanks for your opinions.

:)

Try not to worry about it and just let them weigh you at your appointments rather than weighing yourself. With my last two I didn't actually gain a lb until I hit 36 weeks and even then only gained 7lbs in total.

I've put more on since my youngest was born but that's another story. Good luck with the pregnancy

@gallina thanks for your response. Yeah I was afraid to weigh myself. I work in the hospital so it’s the same scales but I just took a notion because a pair of my work trousers actually felt a bit looser lol.

Yeah I’m sure it’s fairly normal and it’s more important for a normal pregnancy. Can worry about losing weight after the pregnancy.

Thank you x

If you're still eating healthily then not a problem to have lost a bit of weight, a lower BMI will benefit you and baby in pregnancy and birth as long as you are losing slowly and in a healthy way. Congrats on the progress you've made!

I have put a lot of weight in the first 17 weeks and I have been actively watching my food since. In the last two weeks, I have maintained. I don't want to put much on, not only because it will put me at a higher risk pregnancy but also because it will be very hard to lose it, if I have learnt something from my friends.
My understanding is that IVF pregnancies are already high risk, so in your shoes, I wouldn't really look at losing weight or any restriction that can put a precious baby at risk. I would increase fresh food, lots of vegetables and fruits, opt for whole food instead of processed rubbish. This should be safe.
I would steering clear of anything that has a double face, where some argue it is safe, others argue there is risk for bub, like low carb or other extreme diets. Best keep it simple.
Congratulations on your pregnancy

It’s absolutely fine. My midwife said stay away from scales when pregnant as weights vary. I was overweight when I got pregnant with DD2, but stayed the exact same weight all the way through until the last 2 weeks. You tend to eat better and be more conscious about being active when pregnant so it’s quite common not to put on weight or even lose weight if you were overweight to start with.
