Sorry, hard to get the right detail in just the title!

If you planned a home birth for one of your pregnancies, but had a transfer to hospital, what did you decide to do for subsequent births?

My first resulted in transfer due to a very very long labour. So nothing 'serious' as it were, I was just exhausted and needed some extra help.

I feel really strongly that home is the right place for me (terrified of hospitals and I think my labour would have been longer and resulted in much more intervention had I planned MLU or labour ward) and if it's long again I'll probably wait a lot longer before calling the midwives. But just wondering what others have done.

There's lots of data on successful home births for second babies, but I can't find anything for 'subsequent home births if the first resulted in transfer'

I hope that makes sense!!

I got transferred in for a piece of stubborn membrane that refused to deliver. I will still have another home birth. Your more likely to be quicker second time round so you should be fine for a home birth.

DC was born at home but then my blood loss was a bit high, my blood pressure a bit low, so I was transferred in for about (?) 5 hrs until they decided my iron levels & BP were fine after all.

Next DC I had at home with zero issues.

Not exactly what you're asking but my first was a very long drawn out labour in hospital, which ended in forceps and high blood loss. Horrible experience, hated being in hospital both before and after birth.

I was adamant I wanted a home birth for my second. Hospital told me I needed to have baby in hospital as my blood loss would likely be high again. I argued that my blood loss was high because of the whole experience I had, and this would not happen again if I'm at home. Yes, I was bloody minded! If there was any other reason I might have considered things more.

I went ahead with home birth and it was better than I could have hoped for, with minimal blood loss.
The contrast is literally the best day of my life compared to the worst day.

@Badgersonthedoorstep that's a lovely story and well done you for sticking with your guns! I'm glad you were able to experience a wonderful birth at home.

With my first I got so fed up of hearing 'well XYZ happened to me and if I wasn't in hospital it would have been really bad so aren't I lucky I was in hospital' when in fact many of those things are a result of being in hospital in the first place (your story, case in point!)
