B- blood group Mums?

I am 9 weeks pregnant tomorrow and over the weekend I found out my blood group is B- = rare!

It will be an issue if my baby is Rh+ which we won't know until later on and my husband doesn't know his blood type either - helpful!

Just wondered if there were any Rh- Mums who had a Rh+ baby as I know there's an injection you get to stop my blood attacking baby's.

I'm B - also and had 2 children. I'm assuming they are both Rh + as I had anti-d injections in both pregnancies and after them too. Dh is A +

dementedpixie · 03/07/2023 14:35

Dh only knew his blood type as he had donated blood (thats how I knew too)

I’m O-, but there’s the same issue with a potentially + baby.

It’s totally fine. In my first pregnancy I had an injection (called Anti-D) at about 20 weeks, then I had to have one every time I had any bleeding which was annoyingly often. Not fun, but fine.

Second baby (this year) they have now introduced a test to predict whether the baby is positive or negative. As my baby is also O- I didn’t need the injections.

In case it’s reassuring, the potential issue isn’t for this baby, it’s in case you’re sensitised by this pregnancy and it causes issues in a future one.

I’m O- and had Anti-D injections with both my pregnancies. There were no issues and although I was told the Anti-D injections would sting, I never felt a thing. One DD is B- & the other one doesn’t know her blood group.

I’m O- and had anti-d injections in pregnancy and post delivery as both babies had positive blood types.
Eldest daughter is O+ youngest is A+

I'm B- and my partner is O+. I've already had an anti-d in this pregnancy as I had a bleed just after 12 weeks - I understand the unjection lasts for 6 weeks so if I have another bleed now I'm 18 weeks, I'd need to have another injection. I've just got my letter through from the hospital for me to attend at 28 weeks to have the standard anti-d.

I think when I had my first babies (15 and 10 years ago) they gave you an anti-d as soon as you gave birth as well, but I've been told this time they will screen my blood first to decide if I need one.

They are a bit stingy, but no worse than blood thinning injections. You're meant to stay for 20 kindles after you've had it incase of reactions, but I've never had a reaction to it so I'm not worried about that.

You can't really be annoyed with him for not knowing his blood type considering you didn't know yours either. Grin

Strawberry06 · 03/07/2023 14:46

@JeandeServiette No I know, I was just joking! We could ask his Mum but we haven't told her yet and it might look suspicious!

I’m O- and DH is O+. I’ve had anti-D injections in both pregnancies, one mid-way through and one after delivery. One child is - and one is +.
For DC1 the injection was in my bum, so for DC2 I made a joke to the nurse about wearing good pants. She looked totally baffled, at that hospital they did it in your arm 🤭

Harebrain · 03/07/2023 14:47

@SBAM I had all of mine in my bum. 😂

He could go to donate blood and they'll tell him shortly after.

Yeah that might seem odd. Smile

I'm B neg and my children are 49 and 50. I had an injection after the first and I can't remember the second time! No problem either time. Congratulations on your pregnancy.
