Cyclogest issues

Hi ladies

I'm having some horrible symptoms that I think are linked to Cyclogest pessaries so interested to see if anyone has experienced the same. Sorry this post may be a bit TMI!! I’m 11 weeks with an IVF pregnancy and have been using Cyclogest for 9 weeks, mostly rectally. I started to feel a bit irritated last week so switched to vaginally but since then the symptoms have got worse. I’m now having really painful spasms rectally that are literally taking my breath away. Not sure if I should be worried?! I have a midwife appointment on Tuesday morning so was going to wait and mention it then but should I be contacting the doctor before then? Not sure if I’m being dramatic or not so keen to hear other people’s experiences!!

Hi, I've been taking them since 16 weeks and now 33. Will be finishing next week. The only symptoms I had were itchiness and lots of discharge when taking them vaginally so switched to rectal. So far I have had no symptoms apart from one day where they scratched so had slight bleeding.

Who prescribed them and how did they tell you to take them?

Frisbeee · 02/07/2023 20:19

Thanks both for replying.

@Whataretheodds my fertility clinic and they said rectally or vaginally, it’s my choice. Unfortunately they’re not open over the weekend to contact

I think you should try to contact the doctor and your clinic first thing in the morning.

You stopped taking the pessaries rectally a week ago but are now having rectal cramps. The midwife won't be able to do much, I don't think.

@Whataretheodds thank you, I hate making a fuss but you’re right, I should do something first thing tomorrow

i had shortening cervix so had them from 14-36 weeks. I didn't have any symptoms at all apart from the horrible discharge.

Whataretheodds · 03/07/2023 09:13

You're not making a fuss with those symptoms!

Frisbeee · 03/07/2023 11:20

@Whataretheodds thank you so much! So frustrated this morning, my GP gave me an appointment at the same time as my midwife appointment tomorrow morning (you have to fill out a form then wait to be allocated an appointment) even thought I specified I’d be unavailable at that time. Now they won’t give me another appointment as I refused the first one. My private medical won’t cover pregnancy related issues. Honesty this is awful & im crying in pain. I actually think I’m going to have to go to A&E or a walk in centre at this rate:(

Do that!

Is it a phone appointment with the GP? If so can you explain to the midwife and have your phone to hand in case the doc calls while in with GP?

At my GP practice we are told the doc could call an hour either side of the appointment time...

Hi ladies, just wanted to thank you for your messages & reassurance that I wasn’t making an unnecessary fuss yesterday! I also wanted to update just in case anyone is looking for info in the future and comes across this thread.

So I ended up going to a walk in centre yesterday where the doctor thought I had an internal abscess and sent me straight to A&E and prepped me I might need surgery. All very scary & dramatic!! After 7.5 hours in A&E they confirmed no abscess (infection levels in my blood weren’t high enough) and it was an infected haemorrhoid. I couldn’t have antibiotics due to pregnancy but have a cream. Fingers crossed it helps soon as the pain is hideous!!

Oh gosh, so glad you got it checked out and have an explanation. Hope it heals soon
